What are your guys' thoughts on Spotlight? I personally like the song a lot, the lyrics could use some work, but overall I don't know why people disown it..

The lyrics need more than some work. It's about as lame of a song as can be penned.

That is a quote from Dave. Its off the top of my head so its not exact, but hes called the song a turd and says he'll never play it again.

I think for the most part this song isn't too bad. I like it, instrumentation and all, until you get to the chorus. I think the lyrics otherwise aren't too bad.

I personally love this song, though, moreso the DKE version than the full band version.

I personally love spotlight. I love the lyrics most and i love the music just as much. I had never noticed people saying they hate this song until dave started calling it a turd during like, the 96-97 d&t tour. Ofcourse, he also bashed it in 94' at blockbuster music solo. Got me, i still listen to it all the time.

If i had to give a reason why i think dave hated it, it would be that i think maybe the lyrics make him sound a little more famous and hot-headed then he was when he wrote the song. Its never bothered me, i never took the song that seriously. It just seems to me that dave stopped playing it abruptly, right about when the band hit it big. I think it could have been a hit, the lyrics are beautiful and ironic.

Just like the porch monkey, we should bring spotlight back!!
