Are they? I'm not one too bitch, i mean stand up for ex. was ok in my opinion but its nice to hear these new songs thats more them but still original in their own way.

The next release will be crucial. If it's not as good as BS then it's safe to say the prime has come and gone

I think songs like Shotgun and IDOY show the band still have the potential to write amazing songs. Just depends how much efort they want to put in i guess?

as the negative nancy of the group, i think the songs will be ruined in the studio. i have so much fan-wise riding on this album. if it sucks, i'm probably going to walk away.

DMB is definitely not back. Dave has to prove that he can write creative guitar riffs throughout an entire album, not just one or two songs. He also needs to prove that he can write great lyrics again on a full album, not just one good line from some particular live version of a song. But in order for Dave to be able to do all that, the band needs to give creative control back to him and that seems to be something they do not want to give up.

I dunno about this point, if the band had some more creative control then more interesting things would have happened on SU I'm sure. I think the problem is lack of control to the band and control being in the hands of producers

I second that. if the band didnt give the producers as much control i think that the band would have some insane stuff out there right now.

Too many people blame Batson for Stand Up. The band wanted more songwriting control and they got it. Dave did not come up with many of the songs on that album and it shows. The rest of the band, for as musically talented as they are, are not very good songwriters. This band is at its best when Dave comes up with the original idea and the rest of the band fills in around it.

i just think it is kind of amusing, to see how a song such as old dirt hill can be soooo bad IMO when its with the full band, live or album. yet it can actually sound like a good tune when its played just dave solo. even stand up isn't bad when its dave and tim. i still think that dave is providing the core guitar riffs, its the other stuff around it that doesnt seem to be coming together. that being said, i agree with gianni, that lyrically stand up was garbage.

I agree with this 100%. Some Devil was a solid album. Dave still has talent when left to his own devices. What they've got going on is a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth.
