Oh is about the death of Dave's grandfather. Notice the references to the "dusty chair" and as stated on Farm Aid 04, he clearly says that it was written for him. But people do not like to accept it as it is.

"i love you oh so well, like a kid loves candy and fresh snow" seems like its more for a girl. That's how I always interpretted it.

Kid's don't really have romantic feelings, thats the point. It's comparing it to how kids go crazy over candy and how much it excites them and brings them to life. Candy makes a kids day, and that's how he feels when he thinks about the person. I can see how it's geared towards someone non romatically.

I know. He is using a metaphor. It could really mean both romantically or nonromantically.
