DMB'S New Stuff

Unread post by huckit21 » Mon Mar 27, 2006 3:54 pm

Just reading some threads and it sounds like a lot of you guys disslike Dave's latest stuf. How come? and who is this producer that you guys hate so much? I haven't listened to a lot of the new stuff but from what i have read, i haven't missed out on much. What gives?

Oh boy, I'm going to save you from the bitching that is going to ensue do to the fact that this subject has been talked about so many fucking times on this site, so do yourself a favor and search for stuff on Batson (the producer) on here and the new "Stand Up" album (Not trying to come out the wrong way, just warning you that people are going to bitch you out for starting yet another thread on this so try searching. Don't worry about it, I did the same thing when I was new here....). DMBTABS, welcome to it.

You can think of it this way: music is one of the few arts where the artist is required to perform the same works over and over and over. You can expect them to change over time, and improve. Even Da Vinci didn't have to paint the Mona Lisa more than once, nevertheless be expected to paint one many times a year for 15 years. About Stand Up, I will admit that I wasn't a fan of the studio album, but live many of the songs have improved, and with more time they will all be better, this I am sure of. If that makes any sense, thanks for reading.

Think about this: Two Step and Too Much sounded like shit on the record. Look how far they have come since.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

i agree though. i think the album Too Much sucks, i think early performances of it sucked, i think its a song that really is coming into its own, and now sounds awesome soo as well.

Two Step i thought was really good on the album, but 2000 was an awesome year for that song, definitely a song that cannot be captured in the studio.

I have yet to hear a better version of Too Much than the recorded album version.

As for the basic question of this thread...listening to their old stuff then new stuff, theres your answer. I totally agree about artists evolving over time but their effort on SU was non-exsistent, featured drum loops and was poorly written and produced. If Da Vinci started painting with crayons people would say WTF?
