Does Stefan have an Alembic?

Unread post by brian_ok » Sat Dec 03, 2005 12:05 am

I was just looking through the 'Road' photos from the Gorge this August, and Stefan appears to have an Alembic bass:

Alembics are the Rolls Royce of basses; they can easily cost over $17,000.

Can anyone verify this?

A 5 string from the Alembic storefront:

you can see the key Alembic traits on Stefan's bass...the striped neck through, the somewhat lopsided shape...and the rarity of 6 string basses kind of narrows it down to a specialty maker...oh well.

so anybody know?

well i think its pretty clear that the bass in this picture is the same as the bass in the first picture in the thread nitro posted....and that thread, according to tic tacs, says that the bass is a Ken Smith...so id say no stefan doesnt have an alembic, is a Ken Smith

i'm sure stephan could afford an alembic though!! I was looking into buying a jerry garcia custom guitar from alembic but it was like $8500 bucks for the base model. If you have not browsed their site I suggest doing so. Those things are true works of art!

That picture above reminded me: I still cannot figure out why Dave shaves all the time and yet was sporting that McBeard during the Central Park concert. It's distracting :)
