Analyze some songs.

Does anyone know the meaning behind the song Halloween? It is one of my favorties and I have been looking, but don't trust what I read on some non dmb sites.

i'm not sure, but....

dave's old girlfriend (Julia?) denied him i believe 3 times when he proposed to her, so i guess they broke up and dave wrote a song about his feelings for her. its called halloween because that was the day that either they meet, or the day that they broke up.

someone please correct me

Julia Grey was her name. yeah he proposed a bunch of times and was turned down every time. its said to be #2 in the series of ill back you up, halloween, grey street. all dealing with julia. halloween is just all of the frustration, sadness and anger dave had.

I think I read/heard somewhere that she went insane?(Hence "Grey Street") I might be mistaken.

possible, i read grey street is kinda about confusion and why she is how she is

i have analyzed the hell out of the song "The Stone" and check this out (i bet it's something you missed)

In the beginning "Ive this creeping..." Dave sounds timid and unsure of himself

In the next verse "Unholy day..." he is more comfortable and agreesive with his singing, then the sweet realease comes

"I was just wondering if you'd come along"

he sings the chorus very sweet and uplifting then..

BAM "IF NOT I"LL GO"

and back to the agressive singing... now taken out of context

then at the very end, before the orchestra he ends on "I was just wondering if you'd come along"

the last line shows acceptance of being denied and almost a walking off into the sunset giving up.... pretty creepy the parralells(sp?) of not only the lyrics BUT style of singing to a relationship and particularly, his.

"Oh" is about his sister who was murdered, and actually a lot of Some Devil deals with death and getting older. Quote from the cd booklet "I think im losing my hair", etc. And aside from that, alot of the songs are about looking back with regret.

sweet, i always thought of the ending kind of like being denied and having like your world fall apart, "tell me you will...". it kind of has that like "out of body" experience. I can't really explain it well, but I hope you get it.

In reply to smedly: That may be true, i did not research the song before i so factually said what it was about (im good at acting like i know it all, heh ) but it very well may be. One thing to keep in mind though he has only once publicly acknowledged his sisters death, so he probably wouldnt be too forth coming if it were.
