He's playing incredible setlists all tour... great shows.

NOTHING from Everyday.

so I pay $140 to take a train into Mntreal and $100 per night for my hotel.

and he plays four goddamned songs from that album.

That pissed me off.

If not for that, it was an incredible show... BUT

Fool To Think
Sleep To Dream Her
When The World Ends
and Everyday?

Dammit.

He salvaged it by closing with Billies, which I really wanted to hear.

Opening with Stone also made the concert kind of anti-climatic...

I did, howevre, get some great pictures which I wil post here within the next little while.

Never forget the pain I went through on 8/5/03 at my very first Dave show. 7 Everyday songs, and highlights of I Did It, Crash, STDH -> FTT,

I feel that I should be reimbursed for the money and time I spent just to get to Vancouver to see my first show. I wanted to throw something at Dave.

So, you don't have my sympathy, I thought your set was still great... OSW, Help Myself, Grey Street, 41, Too Much, Crush, So Much to Say, Rapunzel, Billies...

Problem is, I don't really like One Sweet World. It is probably the only pre BTCS Dave song that I don't care for...

And I really hate sleep to dream her. it just completely ruined the encore.if he plays it earlier in theset.. fine, I can live with that. But it sapped the energy right out of the rest of the show... Kind of like when Pearl Jam started their first encore (in TO in 2000) with Sleight of Hand.. it just sucked.

but I agree, the show you put up wht was far worse.

Also, Cry Freedom was incredible.

I like the song, but don't love.. but that version was, without question, the best I have ever heard.. it was amazing to see...I agree the set was good (Help Myself, 41, SMTS, Rapunzel, Billies, Stone and Freedom were pretty damn good)..

but I just hate that everyday crap.... Either way, I was happy he didn't play crash, watchtower and ants.. I've seen crash and ants 4 times each and watchtower 3 times....

so it was kind of good to get a break from that, lol.

Same thing happened to my friend on Sunday. His set was great minus that DMB played Diggin a Ditch and then 3 everyday songs straight. Not the good everyday songs either....like Everyday, but all the shitty ones. I felt kinda bad for him, and he got Crash too :-?

. But he did get SMTS --> Warehouse...I would kill for that, and he got Jimi Thing.

People have got to accept the fact that they are dmb songs and the band enjoy playing them.
How the hell could you have not enjoyed FTT, it's kicking ass on this tour.

Come on man, lighten up. At least you got to see them live..

Fool to Think is a horrible teeny song, not to mention it was done consecutively after Sleep to Dream Her.

I was happy that I got to see Dave live, and there were some sure highlights for me... Watchtower, Don't Drink the Water, Stone/Billies encore.

For me it just wasn't worth tracking down good tickets on eBay, making the trip up to Vancouver, being pumped about the incredible setlists which were exploding with older songs and classics... OSW, Help Myself, Two Step, Warehouse, The Maker, Granny, SMTS, Spoon, Dreaming Tree, Minarets, even Ants Marching would have been stellar.

For all the hype of my first concert, I was really let down. I kept thinking.. I'm not at an "Everyday" concert am I? That is 7 of them!

Call me a hater, call me a weak fan, call me whatever... that's just how I feel....

Same with me.. granted, I didn't have great seats (side stage) and only paid face value for them.

but it was a disappointment paying $300 to go to that show (train, hotel, tickets), come into it excited about the great sets they had been playing, then have to see two songs I really cannot stand (FTT, STDH), and two more I'm not crazy about (WTWE, and Everday, although the latter was pretty solid and at least he put the 36 plug at the end of it)....

Especially when he hasn't been playing these songs for the majority of hte tour..

I think it also stems from this:

I believe everybody goes into a concert with a list of songs they really, really want ot hear.. some of these lists could be rather lengthy (and mind, believe it or not was), and some, maybe not.

Either way, the reason Stone was anti-climatic for me was because it was one of those songs that I absolutely definitely wanted to hear, and.. when he first kicked into it, it was INCREDIBLE.. but because the rest of the show didn't live up to that, it kind of sapped the energy out of it, at least, for me.

And then, the only other songs he played that I really, REALLY wanted to hear were #41 and Billies..

So from that perspective, the concert did sort of disappoint.

I'm nto bitching or complaining. I enjoyed myself, I had a good time and the badn was as good as ever... nor am I saying that he HAD to play every song I wanted to hear.. Cry Freedom wasn't on that list, but I think that of hte five shows I have been to, that has probably been thie highest point of all of them... it was just so damn good...

but the rest of the show didn't really capture that.. and that, combined with the somewaht disappointing setlist made the show less enjoyable for me than it could have been.

Different strokes for different folks. A show that may have disappointed you probably brought a lot of joy to thousands of others. Let's get over it and move on with life, k?

If you were disappointed, then that's unfortunate. I don't think the band ever wants people to leave a show not having enjoyed themselves, or thinking that it was a let down and not worth the money.

However, I think people just have too high of expectations here. It is not 1998 anymore. For better or worse, Everyday is out there. They're gonna play some of those songs, just like they play some off of every other album.

I'm not trying to rail on you or anything, but to go into any show expecting too much is a recipe for disappointment. When I saw DMB in NJ, I got lucky; I walked in wanting to hear PFWYG (for some reason) and they played it. If they hadn't, no big deal.

I'm not sure what the point of my post is, other than to suggest that a shift in paradigm is order for fans the longer a band is around. The "classics" won't get the play that they used to, and as a catalog expands it's only natural that there will be an increasing number of songs you'd rather not hear.

It's just part of the game.

I'm not necessarily asking for the "classics"... I never specified WHAT I was asking for... I did, however, make a point of saying I was happy he didn't play Ants, Crash or Watchtower...

The fact remains, however, theo nly pre-crash song he played was One Sweet World....

Oh, I know; my rant wasn't specifically directed at you. I was speaking more to the fact that as a catalog grows, the sample at any given show has an increasing chance of not making individual concertgoers happy.

I don't think I was over-hyped when I arrived at the concert (except for the fact that my heart was racing when we arrived in the parking lot), but came with the expectation that a few older songs would be played. I don't mind hearing a some Everyday songs, and the album has a couple good ones... "What You Are", and... well, ok, "What You Are" is great, and "Everyday" was a fun song live. I don't mind hearing a couple, but I look over the other setlists and see 0 Everyday, maybe 1 or 2... and then we get 7? It just doesnt make sense. I guess you do come with some expectations, one of which is not to hear 7 Everyday songs.

And yes, at one point... after "Crash," and as "Fool To Think" started up, I yelled the forsaken words: "Dave, play something good!"

It had to be done. Then a Stone-Billies encore. He must have heard me. :wink:

NEED???? What the hell? Never thought anyone would say that.

Anyway Dave likes the Everyday songs and you're not Dave, and the decisions aren't your's, so be happy that you got to a show and got to see a band that you like so much.
