Almost positive Dave smokes...I don't think Carter does and I would have to think Stefan has at some point or does. Not sure about Boyd but I would think Leroi was a no also...smoking and wind instruments probably don't work well together. ALthough, his notes are getting shorter and shorter as the years go onmusicalman865 wrote:im j/w, im pretty sure dave smokes atleast i think, from all the threads maybe hes tryin to quite, but would about the rest of the band? ive seen old pics of boyd with a cig and maybe leroi, but would about now?

Onid...can we at least TRYYYYYYYYYY to keep posts somewhat on topic without sarcastic answers? I know it's impossible around here...but let's just try

If you look at the pictures on the DVD side of the Stand Up dual disk, there are pictures of Dave, Boyd, and LeRoi smoking. Dave has mentioned wanting/trying to quit during shows and interviews before but, judging by the pics, still does. The new Rolling Stone article says that his dad died of lung cancer, so hopefully he manages to quit at some point for the sake of his health and his voice.

His Dad was some sort of physicist and I believe his cancer was not smoking related, but more occupationally related.SeaneeRo66 wrote:If you look at the pictures on the DVD side of the Stand Up dual disk, there are pictures of Dave, Boyd, and LeRoi smoking. But when you say smoking musicalman, do you mean smoking pot, or smoking cigarettes.
Everyone is certain he is still smoking cigarettes... but I do believe Dave still smokes pot when he goes on tour, but I wouldnt think he would when he is on a break and at home with his family, IMO.
What do you guys think?

I thought he was an engineer. I know he worked for IBM all of his life, but the cancer being occupationally related wouldn't surprise me in the least. Early computing designers didn't realize how dangerous the components could be.DMB_DO wrote:His Dad was some sort of physicist and I believe his cancer was not smoking related, but more occupationally related.SeaneeRo66 wrote:If you look at the pictures on the DVD side of the Stand Up dual disk, there are pictures of Dave, Boyd, and LeRoi smoking. Hey Brock, I found this over at dave matthews band.net
Dave had been moving around his entire life as he had lived in three countries since he was born, which helped him develop an interesting and original appriciation of music and also a rather original accent. A couple years after he was born, his family moved from Africa to Yorktown Heights, a suburb of New York. There, his father John Matthews, worked as a physicist for IBM until Dave was seven years of age, at which time the family moved to Cambridge, England.

For all of you out there that smoke cigarettes, please try to quit. Use the patch, use the gum, go to your doctor and get a prescription for medication to help you quit. I have seen first hand what smoking can do to a person, and trust me when I say you don't want to go down that road. Quit now while you can still save your lungs and your life. The best to all of you.Davy28 wrote:Even so I hope Dave quits. Please God.
