I agree Hillybilly. Personally I can see where you're coming from, but in many ways I don't agree with you.Trippin Hillbilly wrote:So you're speaking for the whole musical world?? Do you know every musician?gcom007 wrote:Mayer smokes Dave on guitar...Dave doesn't hold a candle to Mayer.
Mayer's lyrics flow better and are very good, subject matter may be young but there's no reason to actually knock the songs he puts together.
Dela kills Stefan on bass...always finds a killer groove to ride.
Michael Chaves is a great guitarist that does a heck of a lot better job in filling out the sound than hacks like Boyd who devestate songs singlehandedly.
Carter owns anyone, no one is arguing this.
Both of their voices are pretty bad when it really comes down to it.
I don't see the argument here...I've come to two conclusions about these two guys though.
John Mayer is overrated right now, but he still has a chance to really prove something as he simply has more talent than just about anyone that's really in the spotlight today, he just has to get out there and do it though.
Dave Matthews is washed up...he's been musically washed up since the early days when he wrote the UTTAD/Crash songs and lyrically washed up since BTCS. Never though was he as great as many people make him out to be. Bad? Absolutely not, but slightly more or less, he is just another guy writing songs...really not a great and really overrated. That's the bottom line. He may mean a lot to you, but in terms of the rest of the musical world, that is exactly where it stands.
How can you even say Dave's voice is pretty bad? I mean really, listen to yourself.
It seems like you believe that everything you say should be written in stone.
Would it hurt to add a couple of IMO's to your posts.
At least that way you wouldn't come across as so much of an ass..
This thread sucks ass
Frustrated w/ this JM/DM shit! any1 with me

Dave is a lyrical genius. Dave is also a melodic genius. Just two of the hundred reasons I put him on the top of my scale..
Forget about skill, forget about listening to music because it is complex. The very rythyms and melodies that Dave's comes up with is the reason I listen to him. There are many guitar players better than Mayer and Dave, but to come up with melodies that come even close to Dave's is a gift that takes more than just pure knowledge. Called Creativity. And a little bit of musical taste on my part.

Dave Matthews is washed up...lyrically washed up since BTCS.
"Forget about what you are escaping from," he said, quoting an old maxim of Kornblum's. "Reserve your anxiety for what you are escaping to."

dave's voice started out as terrible and nasally, then he just started growling, then he growled one too many times and threw out his voice and now it's just hacked up...never could you consider him a great singer. timmy vs. john is ridiculous. sure, timmy's technically better. he's technically better than a lot, but personally, I can't stand him. He has no sense of feel and melody. He just plays a million notes per minute. personally, I can't get into that. Mayer atleast has a sense of feel and melody combined with technical excellence that makes him a lot easier to listen to. and some of you may be surprised to hear what other musicians think of dmb...you have no idea how many times I've heard, "I like the drummer, I have no respect for the rest of them though." Just because they mean a lot to you doesn't mean they really are that great. Seriously.
