All these terrible lyrics reflect on the producer. Lillywhite had the balls to tell Dave that some of his lyrics sucked and made him change them, Batson is just in awe of Dave.

Excellent point. I remember Steve saying something about that on that Ultrasound thing on MTV about the making of BTCS.

Someone on here said that Lillywhite made him sing SUAD over 90 times until it was perfect.

im pretty sure that was dave himself. they left lillywhite cause of the perfectionism and the countless replaying of each song.

too bad the next producer was like "this shit on a plate smells great" and they went with it.
"Forget about what you are escaping from," he said, quoting an old maxim of Kornblum's. "Reserve your anxiety for what you are escaping to."

Yeah that was me. :) I read that back when Busted Stuff was coming out, somebody interviewed Harris and he explained why they were getting sick of Lillywhite, hes a perfectionist and Dave is lazy.

i'm gonna be the black sheep on this issue still - i like Stand Up as an album, yes this isn't typical DMB, yes its over-produced, yes batson is VERY different for this band and its genre - but i don't give a shit - i like it - nitro mentioned how this board was more critical of it because we're musicians, and yes thats a good point, but i can still be critical of it and like it - these songs have great potential live, i can't wait for the tour

just my 2 cents i suppose, you guys make good points too, i just disagree with some of them

"And somehow, with the bricks I gave him, Steve managed to build....a boat!"

My favorite fucking DM quote of all time from the Ultrasound video. That who behind the scenes was a great series. The video on the Stand Up disc.....whcih finally arrived TODAY....was an excellent look inside. It made me respect the album even more.
If you want to be the popular one at a party, here's a good thing to do: Go up to some people who are talking and laughing and say, "Well, technically that's illegal." It might fit in with what somebody just said. And even if it doesn't, so what, I hate this stupid party.

New CD

Unread post by neuro » Thu May 12, 2005 9:29 pm

Lame lyrics, mind numbing beats, and no hint of Dave's acoustic ... I hate this CD :!:

These songs just don't do anything for me ... seriously, I'm getting so bored on my second run through the tracks ... usually I put a new DMB album in my car's cd player and it doesn't come out for weeks ... I'm ready to pull this one already.

Batson (or someone) totally ruined Hello Again.

The only good thing about this is the bonus Warehouse disc ... I like everything on it ... well, except maybe track 8 ... not sure yet on that one.

I've got tickets to three shows this summer and I can't say that I am too stoked about hearing any of these songs live ... except Hello Again and Louisiana Bayou ... and I heard those at Jazz Fest in New Orleans two weeks ago.

I just don't like that the producers name is on every track for playing something. Maybe I don't fully understand what a producers job is, but is supposed to play on all the songs?

sorry guys, this is bad

But the new Dave CD is by far the worst DMB release I've ever heard. Talk about overproduced.. .there's voiceovers, syntethic drum beats, and electric distortion in some of the songs. The only song that holds true to the DMB tadition is Hello Again.. and they even found a way to screw that up a bit.

I know Dave likes to try new things, but this is worse than 'Everyday'. I thought that Busted Stuff was one of their best albums. It's really disappointing to see it followed up with an album like this. I don't even have any motivation to listen to it. It's that bad.

I've been following dave around since '94, and I"m secretly hoping these songs sound better in concert, but I'm afraid they might not.

Too bad we'll have to wait another year or two before we get anything else new from him.

One question that popped into my head while I was going over the setlist was, where's Joy Ride or Sugar Will. Both of these songs were featured in his tour last year but they aren't on the new CD?
