Exactly, after being in the studio for a few months with a producer they aren't going to say he was terrible and never want to work with him again.bbatsell wrote:didn't they say the same thing after ballard and harris? i seem to remember that too

I miss Dave's guitar playing. Hearing the songs and looking at the tab I just feel like there's nothing to play and nothing there. I miss riffs like Billies, Jimi, BOWA. I also don't like the "hooks" in this album. Stand Up and Bring That Beat Back don't need to be repeated like 3,297 times throughout the songs. I know most songs have a verse/chrous/bridge structure, but these just annoy me. I love the riff in Stand Up, but the repetitveness of the song I can't get over. I'm really trying to like this album or make the best of it, but there's something I can't get over about it. Maybe it was overproduced? I don't know. I appreciate them trying new things and branching out but these is almost too much a departure.

Yeah I agree. Although I think they tried to get the whole band involved in the songs more than just Dave.mdel21 wrote:I miss Dave's guitar playing. Agreed. The one song I can actually jam to is You Might Die Trying because it fits the classic DMB structure of a song. I as well am trying really hard to like this album, but everytime I think I am really getting into a certain song there is just something that pops up and pisses me off. There is something missing on this album as a whole, it all seems rushed.mdel21 wrote:I miss Dave's guitar playing. Batson's loops are really pissing me off.
You can clearly hear where the loops end throughout the album.
Couldn't he be assed to fix them? Did he even listen to them?
They're not exactly hard to fix...jeez
Example 1:
Listen to the acoustic loop on Old Dirt Hill at the 11 second mark. There's clearly a gap there.
Example 2:
Boyds riff on American Baby about 3.5 seconds in... wtf?
Example 3:
Dream Girl at 23 seconds.. this is less obvious cause it's covered by the drumming
I'm sure there's more examples but I couldn't be assed to listen to this album again. It just has nothing to offer me.
I hate being a pesimistic ass but this album is really ticking me off.
bad lyrics
bad vocals
bad production
and bombs and shit..great

I hated everybody wake up, but that song seems to grow on me alot. Also, I hate the loops too. Its like they had the song done, and Batson went in and just edited the whole song to make it sound the way he wanted it.
Good album, but they need to let Dave sing naturally and spend more time on lyrics. Some lyrics are good, but if i hear "BRING THAT BEAT BACK TO ME AGAIN..." or "SMOKING UNDER THE RAILROAD BRIDGE" ill kill someone. (I.E... Batson)

don't kid yourself and don't fool yourself
this love's too good to last and i'm too old to dream
don't grow up too fast don't embrace the past
this life's too good to last and i'm too young to care
don't kid yourself and don't fool yourself
this life could be the last and we're too young to see

I was put off by it at first. But David Gray, who is an acoustic artist, uses a lot of electronic beats on his newer albums. David Gray's drumer, Clune, is also great. He's no Carter, but he's great. It's just a different sound. Not classic DMB, but a new direction. And the songs I've heard from the Roseland show sound great with Carter on the drums.aleceiffel wrote:okay, i haven't heard the album and i've read maybe a page of this thread, but... drum machine?! their drummer is carter beauford and they use a drum machine in some songs? since i haven't heard the album i'm trying real hard not to get all pissed off on general pricipal (i hate drum machines) so please tell me i'm just uninformed.
