Re: Stand Up - the next Everyday?
good point, but I think of the Beatles. I mean, look how much they evolved over the years, from the poppy, "hold your hand" to the later stuff. Especially Sgt, Peppers where they did lots of experimentation.mlb1399 wrote:I disagree with Hello Again. That was by far my favorite new song from last summer. It had that old DMB sound to it, full of energy, a blue grass/twangy sound, and familiar Dave type rhythms.Buck23 wrote:American Baby sounded very produced and artificial (not much of Dave's acoustic featured). Sugar Will is an awesome song, but it has more of an everyday-album kind of flavor to it. Joy ride is awesome, Hello again is not.
don't get me wrong, I like everyday. but, it was kind of a different direction for the band, even compared to busted stuff. think we'll see more busted stuff style, or more everyday-ness on this new album?
As far as the album goes, It's tough to say. At first I and everybody hated everyday. But a lot of songs have grown on me such as:what you are, So Right, Fool to Think, When the world ends, everyday. I think given time, it will probably grow on me.
As a creative and artistic band, I expect them to try different things and to grow. Doing the same thing over and over again gets boring. It's a lot easier to the same old routine thing over and over again then it is to try something new and change. As DMB fans, I expect a lot of us to be more open minded than other bands fans. After all, we appreciate creative jams and different interpretations of familar songs to show their creativity.
So much pop music is comprised of repetitive stuff that I don' understand how their fans don't get bored. Bands like Nickelback, Creed which any song you play virtually sounds the same. Then you look at some of the cheesy bands of the 80's that stuck with boring power chords or I-IV-V-I chord progressions.
I think of bands like Led Zeppelin, that tried and experimented with all sorts of different sounds and rhythyms(blue grass, hard rock, middle eastern, rhythm & blues, etc.) I am sure a lot of their fans maybe didn't like some of their tunes right away. I think the fact that they tried new things and made them work is one of the reasons why they are the greatest band ever, IMO.

To me, the problem with this album is Carter's drumming. Everything else would be fine if his drumming wasn't so boring. Straight beats work with a lot of bands, this one just isn't one of them. His drumming has been the backbone of every album so far. When they play live, I think these songs will be great, but as far as this album goes, I think it's gonna be terrible.

what do you mean sink, i personally like everyday it might not of been as good as some others but still its dave matthews band and there freaking awsome and all there cd's are. there stuff on everyday is good and alot of songs on there they still play live. if you really dont like it that much then just go and listen to the old songs, adn everytime your at a concert when one of thoughs "suken" songs comes on put on earplugs if they bother you that much.serialwired wrote:I have not listened to any of the new tracks from "Stand Up" other than American Baby, I'd much rather be suprised when I buy it. But personally, I don't think the band will ever sink to the "Everday" level again. I think that album was totally a fluke. The one that slipped by. Plus, Glen Ballard had more of a hand in writing tunes for "Everyday" than the new producer had for "Stand Up". So hopefully, what we'll be hearing in the new album is Dave, and not Marc Broussard (sp?). But I'm keeping my fingers-crossed. I've heard only good things thus far.

if you really were a beatles fan and had the info, that has nothing to do with Sgt Peppers. John never wrote a song about drugs until Cold Turkey, his first solo single about him and yoko quitting heroin.mlb1399 wrote:Kahn, you know who is responsible for that change, right???
Actualy, the main influence on the album was . . . the beach boys. Yep, their Pet Sounds album inspired John and Paul very much. Also, the beatles never wrote songs while on heavy drugs, or while they were recording (they only did a little weed and such, that's it). The few times they tried it, they just made crap. Also just so this doesn't get brought up, I'll answer it right now. Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds is about a picture young Julian Lennon drew. John loved the drawing, and wrote the song about it. Again, the beatles did not write drug songs.
Yes, I am in a box

You tell you stories as if you were there with all these artists when these things happened. I swear I saw an interview with McCartney where he said they were all high out of their minds when they wrote/recorded at least one album.Ranting Thespian wrote:if you really were a beatles fan and had the info, that has nothing to do with Sgt Peppers. Riiiight. Sure, the Beatles never wrote any music while they were on drugs. If you believe that than you are quite naive. Quite. I'll give you that they may not have while recording or performing. But writing songs?Ranting Thespian wrote:if you really were a beatles fan and had the info, that has nothing to do with Sgt Peppers. RRRRRRRRRRRRRReeeealll fuckin' high on drugs.
Just because they didn't write songs about drugs doesn't mean they weren't on drugs. "We all live in a yellow submarine?" Yeah. No drugs there.
