Poor rock journalism (topic from nancies.org/boards)

Unread post by c_tietze » Wed Apr 20, 2005 9:21 am

My search yielded nothing, so here goes:

An interview between some wannabe rock journalist and Jack Johnson:

http://www.hearsay.cc/features/articles ... hnson.html

Inteviewer: Your tour is eco-friendly, too, right?

Jack Johnson: Yeah, we thought it would be fun. We've toured across the States (blah blah blah, Jack Johnson is boring)

Interviewer: I think many musicians talk about being eco-friendly but they go on tour and don't care about using up resources. At least you're not like Dave Matthews, dumping all his waste into the river.

Jack Johnson: Yeah, I heard about that.

I wrote to this college rag hearsay because of this stupid comment.
Your thoughts?

Yeah, apparently one mistake by a person that is a driver and not a member of the band ruins it for everyone. Nevermind the countless concerts they have done on behalf of the environment, or the countless dollars they have donated, or the countless statements by them to raise awareness.

What a fucking idiot. This guy is not very intelligent. Way for him to read one article and write about it instead of doing more research and finding out the truth. You gotta love journalists.

Nice work writing to him.

It was his damn driver. not dave himself.

Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead

it's typical media...even at the college level...it's almost always opinion based or 'what someone else wants you to know from their perspective' ...i just don't pay any attention... to me, all media is (news, sports, etc..) is just like movie reviews... you can't trust'em.. and yeah this article sucked

TRUE.I know a lot of people who hate Dave, mainly because he hasn't given them any reason to hate him. They hate him because other people love him. We have an anti-DMB group on the facebook at my school. He has never said anything stupid in public, never made an ass out of himself in front of the media. Not saying that he doesn't make an ass out him self in private or anything. People can't ever say why they hate him, but this gives them a reason to hate him. So they jump all over it. DMB has not done anything stupid before, so now that something happens, dumb journalits say stupid crap like that guy did in the article. Thanks for writing them tietze,

Just goes to show that a lot of high schoolers are retarded. They hate someone they don't know? So much so that they start an anti-DM group. Wow.

People hate dave because they envy him. They wish they could put on as good a live show or have such a fan following. When someone is on top there are always some stupid dipshits who try so bring them down.

my gf's mom works at tweeter center in MA (she's not necessarily a dmb fan) ...but she says dmb is one of the only concerts where basically EVERYBODY sings along to every song... she says those types of concerts are the most fun... kudos to dmb and their fans! everyone else is just missing out in my opinion

What really gets me is that DMB donates millions to eco-friendly organizations and charities. What has Jack Johnson done?

Another thing paper Hearsay doesn't even need to advertise that they are a "college" paper as it's obvious by the quality of writing that Hearsay is definitely a college rag.

I've written better material at 18 years old.

I can't stand it when people tell me they don't like dmb cause dave is obviously gay. I can understand "i don't like the sound of his voice" but to say that dave is gay, based on what grounds?

Yeah, everyone sings along at Jimi Buffet concerts too (at least that was what my mom has told me from the many she has been too). Some of the first music I can recall when I was really little was Jimi Buffet (I loved those songs so much when I was a kid. I should pull out Off To See The Lizard again and flashback :D , I also remember Michael Nezmith, Steve Earl, Diar Straits, and the man, Bruce Springstein, my parents just shoved music down my mout as the years went on, lol, and I loved them all)
Yes, I am in a box
