that is one nice set. but the august 5th show is going to be better. how do i know? because i'm going, and I demand satisfaction!
also, eze3484 is right. if crash was done by anyone else, it would only be a song about some creepy lustful guy in a tree. dave turns makes the lust into love, which is quite a feat. he actually makes 'hike up your skirt a little more' sound beautiful, almost soothing.

on what basis do you call it a love song... because it has pretty chords??eze3484 wrote:Dave said himself that Crash is about the guy looking through the window that the girl calls the police on, that is pretty creepy. The fact that Dave's lyrics craft it into a love song is just amazing.

Because it kinda is. Dave just has an interesting way of writing love songs. Dave's idea of love at that time, back when he was a drunk frat-boy, might have been as twisted and perverted as that. He has always had the ability to turn that kind of foolishness into a beautiful expression of self. Crash is a perfect example. Look at Say Goodbye!
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

hmm looking for more of an explanation that cited lyrics and whatnot... everything you said is basically just speculation...Davy28 wrote:Because it kinda is. and as for say goodbye... i wouldn't call that a love song either... more about the confused emotions after a "bump and run"...

Right before dave said it was about a guy peeping tom on a chick calling the police naked or whatever, he said it was about worship of women. (I might add some babe in the audience just offered to buy him a drink) I think the song is more about lust and sex than love. You come crash into me. And I come into you. I'm bare boned and crazy or you. Hike up your skirt a little more. Show your world to me. Thats what I mean by making perverted frat boy lust into a pretty song.

Give Crash a break. After all, all really good songs get overplayed after a while. There really is no way to avoid that. I totally agree that Crash has been overplayed in DMB setlists, which is why I'm glad he has played it less often these days, but I still like listening to it once and awhile.

its not that its overplayed... despite some redeeming qualities, i just don't like it that much...Davy28 wrote:Give Crash a break. After all, all really good songs get overplayed after a while.
