Get well soon, Leroi

Unread post by Davy28 » Tue Jul 29, 2003 3:15 pm

Did anybody hear about what happened to Leroi on the july 27 home depot show? He was sick all day with a stomach virus and against doctors orders he played in the show, but after a few songs he was too sick to continue. The band played on, but everybody realized how empty the band was without him. Just in case anyone doubted the band members dedication to the band, not too many people could have the determination and will to try and play a DMB concert with a stomach virus. I'm sure couldn't if I was him.

It just lets us know that if any of the members of DMB left the band, the band would never be the same. Get well soon, Leroi.

I just read about it the other day. Where is the home depot arena, anyway? I was wondering if anybody here went to that show. I can hardly what Too Much would have been like. Or especially what you are.

Jeeze..a show without Roi, I do feel bad for the people who went to that show. I can't even imagine the emptiness....that might have had to be filled by Boyd...::shudder:: :-)

Boyd should have just dropped his violin and sang for the rest of the set. He sings better than he plays.

haha I wouldn't say that I found a version of Nancies where boyd sings, he's like "LAHAHAH HEYAYAY" and he sounds awful.

Note: That show, as far as I heard, was actually a really good show. Because of the absence of Leroi the band was forced to cover his parts. I heard Dave busted out some skat and Butch got some nice solo time. Sounds like it might have been pretty sweet, but i still want Leroi back.

while on the topic of boyd & his ...quirks... i have a video from '92 of them doing a set somewhere (i'm sure someone here knows what it is) & he was wearing a complete cowboy outfit with frills on his jacket, cowboy hat, and cowboy boots. anyways, whenever boyd stopped his violin picking during two step, he'd do a little jig, and i'm quite certain it's the funniest thing i've ever seen.
back to leroi, of all the bandmates to have it happen to, it has to be the shyest one of all.

Leroi has to be one of the best if not the best musician in the band. He jams relentlously and flawlessly for sometimes in excess of ten minutes with just a couple of chords. He almost never screws up and when he does, he at least makes it sound jazzy. LIOG/Red Rocks and Jimi Thing/Listener Supported are perfect examples.

The solo during rapunzel gets your toes a-tappin. THATs a song that would royally blow without Leroi. Unless Butch or Peter did a hellavu lot of piano jamming

I laughed my ass off the first time I saw that, its fromthe Vanrypers Festival. Boyd danced about as well as that hippie right in front of the stage wearing that purple dress.
