Old DMB Studio tracks....great stuff
Old DMB Studio tracks....great stuff
I have been listening mainly to Dave and Tim live shows for the past few years. I recently bought a new MP3 player and loaded my DMB studio albums. I had forgotten how good the studio work is...it kinda took me back to the music that I had enjoyed at the beginning.
Some of the tracks sound strange now...Halloween is just freakish.
Peace out

That exact thing just happened to me. I went through a stage of only listening to live stuff, but now i really enjoy going back and listen to the studio stuff. cool.tmahan wrote:I have been listening mainly to Dave and Tim live shows for the past few years. The one thing i've always appreciated most from dmb is all the live albums and shows that are available. I used to think that the album was the focused, best version of the song but with all the live versions i've heard i wonder if dave ever wanted to just jam out on the album
I rarely listen to any studio albums, no matter who the artist is. Live music rocks!

I'm kinda biased because I have never been a fan of Steve Lillywhite's production skills, but there are certain studio version that reign supreme over their live versions. The Dreaming Tree, Proudest Monkey, and Lover Lay Down are examples.

As are tims little fills near the end.Kukini wrote:SMTS studio is awesome. The intro is sick.
I still like the UTTAD version of Jimi Thing. The blend of the Violin is almost perfect. I also prefer the BTCS version of The Last Stop to live versions, depending on my mood. Live versions have power and energy ripping out of every pour, but the studio version is better paced, edgier, and more mystical.
