Howdy all!

I'm brand new to the board, and have only just discovered the "drug" that is learning DMB tabs! Truly, a vile sickness....<grin>

Anyway, I've only been reading tabs for few months, and just got myself a spiffy new axe (hence the handle...easier than trying to think of something Dave-related, that wasn't already in use.)

An no, I won't be drawn into a debate about my guitar, and how it's not a Martin. I'm poor (relatively speaking), and the Martin I'd buy would require a second motgage...so no. Besides, my wife would kill me..it was all I could do to convince her that I'd progressed beyond the early 60's Framus in terms of skill. (I'm a singer, and have only really seriously started playing in the last year or so.)

So far, I've picked up #40, Two Step, Typical Situation, Seek Up, Crash Into Me (more or less) and the majorities of Christmas Song, Granny and Lover Lay Down and Say Goodbye. Not bad for not being able to read tabs just a few months ago, eh? (Forgive the Canadian affectation.)

I also (gasp) only "discovered" DMB last year, when I picked up a copy of Live In Chicago on a whim. Hadn't actually heard any songs other than Don't Drink the Water up to that point.

Guess that we all gotta start somewhere, right?

Now of course, I'm starved for alternate live takes of stuff that's not on the "official" releases. Ideas? Hints? Suggestions...keeping in mind that the whole MP3 thing has passed me by entirely.

Thanks,
Jeff

If your "starving" for some live stuff, I can send you the three CD set of the Lost Acoustic's (do a search on that one) in a few weeks after I get mine back from Jayme (that is unless you can find someone else to do a B&P {another search term for you} of it before then). In the meantime, pick up Live at Luther College if you dont already have it.

Hi Will, thanks for the offer...that would be great. If you've got the time. I've got Luther College and am slowly working my way through it. I'm only really missing the first two studio albums (just laziness on my part) and have Folsom, Red Rocks, etc. However, it's an "irritation" that I've only ever heard one version of #40 (Listener Supprted) an not a single "B-side" on the tab page.

Thanks for the welcome.

Howdy,

I'm saving Stairway to Heaven for my retirement....<snicker>

And thanks, I'm still a little self-conscious about the choice of axe.
But I'll get over it, I'm thinkin'.

Hi there...

Yep, gotta agree...best album. It's right up there with Morrison's Too Late to Stop Now in terms of "classicability." 20 years from now, I'll likely still be torturing my wife with it. (She's a DMB fan, just not 24/7, 365.)

And thanks for the encouragement...alot of this stuff is really tuff.

Hi,

Yeah. I guess I'm gonna have to bite and download Kazaa...I don' know why I've resisted th mp3 thing, I guess it's like switching from VHS to DVD; either its slow and painful or quick and expensive.
And it's good to know that my guitar's relatively safe <grin>.

I've got all the official stuff except the first two studio albums. Been collecting for about a year, but my energy is divided between DMB and artists like the Waterboys, Jeff Buckley, Van Morrison and The Tea Party. That's on top of my obsession with Keith Jarrett.

There's only so much scratch to go round, know what I mean?

Best,

Jeff

What's up.

It's good to see another Canadeian. You're from Toronto, eh? I'm in St. Catharines. I have to agree with what has been said.

1)NO ONE WILL RAG YOUR GUITAR
2)get luther college and know it word for word - including dave speak
3)download some shows from Antsmarching.org or Direct Connect (you can do a search about Direct Connect in the boards here)
3)enjoy it here - it's a laid back community unlike some places (which will not be named) people here are cool and helpful (except for firedancer all he does is brag about his Taylor 814ce   j/k fire)

Peace,

My god, another canuk. I swear you guys advertise this site on telephone poles and streetcorners up north. :D Anyway, welcome to the boards. This site is an addiction, but remember; admitting you have a problem is the first step. Heh.

What a great guy, already offering to give back shows. Did you already send me your package, if you did its probably already in the mail or ready to be sent out tomorrow. I just created a really good system for doing b&p's and havent started using it until today so I dont remember if I got/sent yours yet. Im really glad I got this system started though, I think its really gonna organize stuff for me. Anyways, blueridgeguy if you really want some good shows, get into the b&p scene or if you have high speed internet get into the Bit Torrent Downloads scene. If you have know idea what Im talking about then pm me and Ill try to fill you in on the whole trading scene and get you started. Welcome to the boards!

No, I didnt manage to get my B&P out untill today, but I'm in no big hurry to get it back (well, I can't wait to hear them, but no hurry..so dont worry about being out of town...I'll take them whenever you have a chance to get to them). And as far as sharing goes, the way I see it, If there weren't people to give new people like me and him our first shows, how would we get anywhere with this?
