I'm trying to transcribe lyrics to the new songs, but he keeps friggin changing them. Of course, I expect that from a new song.

Which date are you listening to? I have all the shows so far (thank you, newsgroups) and have took some stabs at a few to find one I like.

This is what I make out. It's from that first batch of live versions posted (I think it was at Ants Marching), but I can't give you a date. Dave does a lot of mumbling and skat, so it's tough.

---

sinning i've done my share of this
still hold the door, forgive me of my sin
ten years ago down by the lake
i blew my sweet love and buried her in the lake
i close my eyes and still see her face
i'd give my soul to take back that day

hello again
it's been too long
hello again
too long, i know
hello again
it's been too long
too long, too long
hello again
you know you got
what it is i want
anyway i'm gonna
take it back
hello again, hello
you know, hello again

here i go again
start over and over
i'm gonna see your face
here i go and say
but over and over
i'm gonna see your face

go away
on that day
sinking

i am not worth the flesh on my bones
i am a waste of the air in my lungs
run far from me your love is safe
(??) is gone through my veins

hello, hello again
it's been too long
hello again, too long
too long
i know you got
what it is i want
anyway i'm gonna take it back
hello again
it's been too long
too long, too long
hello back
i'm gone
rain on
(??)

(??) again
over and over
i'm gonna see your face
your love will stay away
then over and over
i'm gonna see her face
gone away
on that day
headed on bye

(??)
rain on
(??)
you got
you know
you know
rain on
lay back

our her love is blown away
and over and over i'm gonna be here
here we go away
and over and over i'm gonna see her face
blown away
on that day
her i'm lying

(??)
i'm gonna turn back to you again
whether i am (??)

hang on, hang on
rain, rain on
sing out a day, sing out a day
uh-huh, again
sing out a day
uh, ay, ay
(??)
Stay with me, safe and ignorant.

What exactly are the newsgroups? I've been wondering this for some time now.

Back when the Internet was brand-spanking new and programs such as phpBB didn't exist, people who wanted to communicate had two options - BBS (Bulletin Board Systems) and USENET (newsgroups). USENET was very similar to boards such as these. It was composed of many channels (compare to forums) where users could post messages and reply to each other. USENET was composed of many different news servers sending data to each other, so a user would send a message to their local news server, which would then send it to the other news servers.

Now, USENET still serves its purpose for certain groups, but has become popular for distributing warez as of late, because of the ability to split files into parts of a message that was then posted to USENET. Users could then download the individual parts, put them together, and have the file that was originally posted. It was hard to stop or catch users posting it because of the inherent anonymity of the system and it was hard to take it down because it was composed of so many servers. Early DMB traders found USENET to be a valuable resource as to getting their shows out, and started a channel called alt.binaries.music.shn.dmb. (Binaries meant that they were files posted as messages.) Nowadays, you can still find most shows being uploaded on USENET by the tapers or their friends, and then distributed via BitTorrent after a user has downloaded them from the newsgroups. Most broadband providers provide a news server for their customer's use, and they are usually very fast, so many traders use the newsgroups to download pulls of DMB shows.

If you have access to one (read: check with your ISP). If your ISP doesn't provide you with one, you have to pay a monthly fee for one.

some isps will aloow newsgroup access, but the info would be really buried on their sites because all the little script k1ddi3Z out there just abuse the service. "|-|4xOr th4 pl4|\|37" and stuff.

if you want to do hardcore show downloading, youll probably have to pay for your own service (prices vary)

but once you get there, alt.binaries.music.shn.dmb is all you need. well that, and a shn plugin for winamp, or SHN direct show filter for WMP, or (x) for (whatever macos uses)

if you don't want to take that route, the antsdownloader on antdmarching.org is good, but you don't get the quick turnaround of newsgroups. (the hershey show i was at on 07-10 was being posted the next night.... now THAT was fast)

btw i'm working on the hershey show for lyrics to the new songs. the crazy-easy really describes me pretty good.

I think we need current lyrics.. like.. the newer version of the song, because a lot of those lyrics changed.. such as:
ten years ago down by the lake
i blew my sweet love and buried her in the lake
is now:
Ten years ago down by the lake I gave my sweet love a watery grave.

I dunno.. maybe we should wait for an official release of the song..hehe
Shows Been to: 7-17-02, 12-15-03, 7-20-04, 7-5/6-05
