Norfolk Show

Unread post by taylordb » Thu Mar 27, 2003 12:17 am

Just got back from the Dave and Tim show at Old Dominion University. All I can say is that it was hands down the best Dave concert I have been to. I was on the floor, 8 rows from the stage and just right of center. I'm too tired to remember the setlist, but it was very similar to some of the others on this tour. It was a very intimate show with lots of davespeak.
Tim was absolutely AMAZING!!!! Seeing him that close, watching his fretwork, just blew me away. I have always had a lot of respect for him, but now I am in awe
They played a couple of songs I had never heard of before, so I will check the setlist on Nancies.org tomorrow to see what they were.
A lot of interesting twists on the intros to several of the songs...Dancing Nancies intro was particularly good.
When they came back out for the encore, Dave said that he and Tim were talking backstage and they both felt that this show was a high point for them in the tour...so he thanked the crowd for that.
The show was a little over 3 hours long with no intermission.
There were at least 4 tapers that I saw, so the show should be available soon. DO NOT MISS DOWNLOADING THIS SHOW.

Another highlight was that I got to meet Xoosh...very nice guy and contrary to one of his posts I read along time ago, he's not that scary looking in person (j/k Xoosh).

Sorry for the long post, but I thought someone on the boards might be interested.

Yes...he played both Help Myself and The Maker. Other songs he played, off the top of my head and in no particular order; Bartender, Grace is Gone, Everyday, Satelite, Crush, The Sone, When the World Ends, Dancing Nancies, #41, Jimi Thing, Two Step, Don't Drink the Water (with This Land is Your Land), GraveDigger, Where are You Going, I'll Back You Up, a new song that I had not heard before (something about the day you left) and Ants. I might have left something out...I'm getting ready for work now and am operating on 4 hours sleep.

Tim played two solo numbers...both were awesome but the second one absolutely KICKED MY ASS  If anyone does not think he is one of the best guitarist on the planet they should see him live, up close, and they would be converted.

The whole show outdid my wildest expectations. The only downside were there were several assholes that would not stop shouting stuff like "Freebird"...Dave tried to deal with them subtaly saying things like "Say what you think, say what you feel, anytime, just not here" and "everyone wants to turn around and tell the guy to shut up but they are afraid because he is so loud he must be this huge person....but he's probably this really short guy" or something like that. There was also a whole upper section in house right (as you look at the stage it is on the right) the was extremely rude talking very loudly and laffing and carrying on the entire time during a very quiet and intimate version of I'll Back You Up...Dave even did about a 15 second "stare you down" in their direction with a disgusted look on his face. BUT the show was so awesome it was easy to block all that out.

Sorry again for another long post. Once you see a show like that it is hard to shut up 8)

I agree...This was my 3rd ('97-99'-03') Dave & Tim Show. It was the best show as far as Vocals & Guitar is concerned. Although, The intimacy was ruined by people not sitting in their seats and some people were doing their typical drunk screaming. The setlist was OK, kind of Lovey, and not upbeat, except for the Stone, Satellite, Lie in Our Graves, Ants, and Help Myself. Anyway, Peace o

The new song is awesome, I completely forget all the lyrics and how it goes but it sounds great. I can't wait to hear it again.

How Dave could say that it was a high-point of the tour is beyond me though, this crowd was FULL of jackasses. They were much better behaved on Tuesday in Davidson. Despite them though, it was an excellent show.

Levi,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but he did say the show was the high point of the tour so far did'nt he? (just want to make sure I'm not going deaf)

I agree with you 100% on the jackass factor with the audience.

He certainly did say that. It was a really nice day and a really nice venue, but there were so many morons, lots of screaming, lots of interruptions. I still had a great time though.

so how come danny was the only one who came over to say hello if all you guys were there???? ;P

what'd you think of two step? pretty sweet, no? Seekup has been a major disapointment on this tour. I've heard it 3 times, and each tiem i keep feeling like "maybe they'll go all out this time.." and then they just die .. im like DAMN IT! :P

Xoosh, in your opinion, how did the Norfolk show compare with the 3-25-03 show? I know you went to that one as well.

Xoosh...Why didn't you come over and see us? You should come and greet the elder community, rather the other way around.

Xoosh,

What did you think of this show compared to others...Probably didn't deviate too much, huh.. Seems like they have been doing the same thing w/ little variation. Are you going to the VA Beach show...If so I will come over and say hi!
