First time hearing DMB
In 1994 my older brother came home on leave from the army and forgot his cd case when he left. I just randomly listened to a few of his CD's and stumbled across Remeber Two Things. I played the daylights out of that CD until we sent his CD's back. Later that year UTTAD came out and I was hooked. I think the song on RTT that I liked the most (at that time) was Recently.

I remeber in the AOL video that the guys asked why they act like "regualr" guys up there. Dave said "Well, I remember people always calling me different when I was growing up. (everyone agrees that they were the same) I find it funny how that we are now performing in front of thousands and now we are 'regular' guys"Ranting Thespian wrote:First time I heard them was in 1994 in the car with my mom, I don't remember, actualy, but I guess that was it. I remember hearing ants marching when I was young. My mom liked them so much, she got UTTAD in 1994.
When i really liked them that much was when I got BTCS in 1998, and i listenend to Last Stop and the Dreaming Tree. Once I really listened to them, I thought, wow, great, amazing. They have a sound no one else has ever sounded like. Then, they are just ordinary guys, who just get up there, all great friends. They are just good people, never selling out, always coming up with new ideas and twists but still being themselves, and keep on trucking, and loving it.

My sister then started playing DMB in her car on the way to school. I carpooled with her, and she had crash, so I remember:
The Creepy Song: Two Step
The pretty song except for the damn drumming which I used to hate: Crash into Me
The Long Song with all the solos: #41
The DA! DA! DA!--------DA! DA! daa! (The opening notes) song: Too Much
The song that takes forever to get to the main song: Say Goodbye
The puppy love song with the whistling: Let You Down
The song with the annoying sax line and the talking in the background: Lie in or Graves
The song with the annoying electric guitar : Cry Freedom
The song with the wierd drumming intro: Tripping Billies
The really really long sad song with the goofy slide whistles: Proudest Monkey
And Other songs she had
That crazy I'm thinking just knowing that the world is round song: Crush
That scary song with all the wierd guitar effects: Deed is Done
The song with all the violins that sorta sounds like the theme from The King and I: Halloween
The psychodelic middle eastern song: The Last Stop
You can tell at the time I was rather skeptical.

I discovered SMTS later, on one of those days when she wasn't home and i stole her albums. By chance I popped in crash, and...................You_Enjoy_Myself wrote:Davy you left out SMTS, or did she always skip that one? And why did you find two step creepy?? Pretty funny list though
Uh....duh....ah, oo, ee.............
I liked it right off the bat. The other's eventually followed, but I prefered their live or D&T versions better.
I can't remember associating anything with SMTS like the others on Crash. Maybe she didn't play it as much, but I don't remeber ever hearing it before the time described above.
Two Step seemed creepy because at the time I had not acquired a taste for the wailing dave does before the verse or boyd's pizzicato. After I heard the song on L@LC and later LS I fell in love with it. The Crash version of Two Step has always been one of my least favorite dave songs. I can't stand carter's harmonies in the last chorus. Its a far better song with an acoustic guitar live and with butch's solos.

I didn't get into DMB until Crash ... Two Step did it for me ... I used to listen to the album over and over again ... Ironically I think I had UTTAD before it and with the exception of Ants and WWYS, I didn't really get into it. Back in '98 some guys and I were playing around in a band and started practicing Jimi Thing and I realized that I had missed out on something and went and got Crash and then listened to UTTAD later on.
I bought Everyday and really dug on Angel a lot, but it wasn't until I got back into playing guitar in the last few months that I've found DMBTabs and purchased Listener Supported and Central Park on DVD.
Now I'm hooked

I don't think I can really put my finger on the first time I heard Dave or even what song for that matter I can definately narrown it down to a few. It was either Crash, Ants Marching, or WWYS. But even then I wasn't really into DMB I just thought "oh thats a different sound." I started getting into him when on a whim I bought L@LC and thought WOW how did they do that. Shortly after I started dating a girl that had been too over 40 DMB shows and it was on from there.
AND I'M OUT!
