radio city and a surprise

Unread post by gatorz95 » Mon Mar 24, 2003 12:40 am

well, just got back from manhatten. :D

RADIO CITY KICKED ASS!!!!

I paid thru the nose for tix's, but damn it was worth it.

Radio City is such a great place. The sound was incredible. The crowd was great. Dave even mentioned this was the most respectful crowd he'd played for recently. I guess cause it wasn't on a campus.

I found dave to be fairly animated, but not sure since this was my first D&T. He did mention that although most people knew his position on the war, he had tremendous respect for the troops. He simply had problems with the "kings and queens."

Some of the highlights for me....

Surprising, Fool to Think was a highlight. I guess cause I really don't like the album or band version. Their acoustic version was really nice.

Dave seemed really into Gravedigger. My first time seeing it live. Very powerful.

Tim....a very small man...what is he 5-3"...anyway....he played 2 songs. I can't begin to say how impressive he was.

Dave and Tim played real tight.....as expected. I do wish Tim had a little more action in the newer songs, but I guess this will come over time.

They played for over 3 hours, not including the encore.

As for today, my wife and I were walking around Manhatten....killing time before we had to catch a cab to the airport at 3:45pm. We ended up walking by the Pennisula hotel and my wife noticed a black tour bus out front with Oregan plates. Needless to say, we immediately suspected it might be dave's. 2 other kids suspected the same and were waiting with a camera. We hanged around for about 45 minutes. A roadie brings out a martin case and then another. Low and behold, Tim comes out with a bodyguard. Doesn't really say anything, but did agree to the picture.

About 30 minutes later, dave comes out and walks right up to us and shakes our hands. I could not believe it. He seemed so down to earth and genuine. Told him the show was fantastic and that we flew all the way up from Texas. He thanked us for coming and made time to have his pic took with each of us. I can't say enough....Dave is a class act.
Do what you will, always
Walk where you like, your steps
Do as you please, I'll back you up.

That completely rocks man!

My friends and I are going to both NC shows next weekend with nothing to do in between - we're hoping we'll get the same luck!

On a note: We met Tim about a year ago after his solo acoustic show here in Atlanta. He's just naturally a very quiet man - he was very humble of the compliments we gave him of his show and was great about pictures and autographs. I don't think he does it to be rude at all...quite the opposite - I think he's partially shy and really down to Earth. I'm glad you got to meet him as well! He gets overlooked far to often!

Heh, that's interesting... the talk going around is that the crowd was fairly bad. I quote from debbie (runs dmbrr mailing list): "i cannot even begin to tell you what an absolute contrast the crowd around us was [at west point] to our bad luck at radio city..." - could be just bad pockets in the crowd though.

Ya, they seem to have *really* worked on perfecting it since last year. I was floored.

Good to hear. I was a little disappointed after 3/19 because he sounded off. I just figured he was still getting over whatever illness made him cancel his solo tour.

Personally, i'd rather drink a beer with Tim ... he fascinates me (dont get me wrong, dave is my idol), but someone as tallented as tim on the guitar is someone i want to soak up.
