You haven't kept up with the news. Taking a page from Phish's playbook, the band announced earlier this year that soundboard recordings from each show (starting this tour) will be available for purchase and download - this indicates that the formats they will use will be Windows Media. No need for 6 question marks, either.

it doesn't indicate a damn thing, just because they're doin the official releases like this, doesn't mean they're gonna do every show like thatTrippnBill686 wrote:You haven't kept up with the news. Again? Oh well. You're only making yourself look like a dumbass.DropD-MB wrote:Wow, there you go again Trippin', telling me what to post.
??????? Heres 7 for ya' since you didn't think 6 was necessary.
It doesn't? Hmmm.... explain that one to me. They've set up a system to allow for digital downloads complete with license acquisition on a Windows Media server and DRM. Why wouldn't they use that system that they already have put a lot of time into to set up to distribute the already-announced SBDs? And nugs.net is exactly who is doing the online distribution of DMB SBDs this summer (that's already been announced). I sincerely hope I'm wrong, but if I'm not, then read this DMB mgmt. Don't be morons, please.DJR07 wrote:It doesn't indicate a damn thing, just because they're doin the official releases like this, doesn't mean they're gonna do every show like that

Yes, I get flustered over that. This relates and applies to me, as I planned to purchase these SBDs. If you don't care, then don't say anything - you obviously couldn't give two shits about this topic.DropD-MB wrote:Dumbass??? Nahh.... I don't think so. Dude, there will be ways around it. Soundboards are great and they helped make DMB what it is today. But DMB no longer needs the help of their fans to spread the love. It was a marketing tactic on their end for FREE distribution.TrippnBill686 wrote:Yes, I get flustered over that. This relates and applies to me, as I planned to purchase these SBDs. All good things come to an end. And if they stop allowing tapers to tape their show from the soundboard, well so be it. That is entirely up to them.
But I wouldn't lose all hope in not getting great recordings in the future.

from what I have gathered, best quality... As in mp3's are a lossy format because of the bitrate used compared to shn's or wavs. Somethin like that, TBill will correct meEnFuego wrote:what does "lossless" mean...its an option that you have to pay more for.

There are two different kind of audio formats - lossy and lossless. Lossy formats are more well-known and more prevalent - MP3, AAC, Windows Media. These are able to greatly reduce an audio file's size by stripping out audio information above and below certain frequencies (the theory behind this is that humans can't actually hear audio at frequencies that high or low anyway). However, most audiophiles refuse to deal with lossy audio because it is not of very good quality because of that stripped out audio data. Instead, they prefer lossless formats, which are able to compress audio from raw data to smaller sizes, but without any loss of data (think of it like a zip file for audio). Examples of these formats include SHN and FLAC.EnFuego wrote:what does "lossless" mean...its an option that you have to pay more for.
