anyone who says tim is better than bela is out of their minds, no offense, but bela is as good as they come, there's a reason he's everywhere, tim is amazing, but highly overrated in the DMB world, bela is a top dog wherever he goes, that is that.

Dnunen wrote:They are both incredible musicians, and it's hard to compare guitar to banjo, but i think i would go with bela. he's incredibly flexible. he can go bluegrass, rock, jazz, or classical and do it all amazingly well. check out his classical album "perpetual motion" if you're into that. anyways it's apples and oranges trying to pick between those two. both awesome.
I'm sure tim can go from style to style too, but it still doesn't change that bela is just amazing, it's no coincidence that he's done way more in the music world than tim, more people probably know tim because of dave and tim and live at luther college, but tim hasn't done much past that, and when bela does his solo cd's, he brings in the best out there because he's the best at his thing, he works with the best, and there's a reason tim's not there...a lot of people can play fast, there's a lot more to it than that. I'm not saying tim is bad at all, not in the least, but bela is a world class musician, tim just isn't.

They both kick ass; no need for one to kick more than the other. ;)

i've never even listened to bela fleck or that victor guy, but if you listen to all of tims albums and live shows you can tell that he knows his shit, wheither it be bluegrass, rock, classical, spanish, jazz. tim came to bend, or. and played at our college. it was a real small room and i got a spot right up front. sure, tim likes to play really fast, but he can also play with a pretty exact hand. i don't think he's all improve, if you study his solo's he uses a lot of different kinds of scales. mixolodian is his favorite though.
tim is an awesome guy though, he's got that whole smokers voice going on there but i guess that's what you get when you've partied like he has. after the show a couple of people stayed to hang out with him, i think the rest of the people were waiting for dave to walk out during the whole show. and when i finally got to talk to him all that the other people could ask him was how it was like to play with dave. we did talk about playing with dave but i was more interested in what his influence were and just how he thinks. we almost got him to come back to our place were my three friends and i play guitar, we had a bass player and my friend sara can bust out mad boyd skills on the violiin, but he had to leave right away and head to the next town he was playing.
i don't know about those other two guys but tim definetely knows his shit.
peace.(that was a long one)

I read once that Tim was in a car accident long ago and damaged his vocal chords and that he used to be able to sing in the high range like a girl, he said. That may explain his smoker's voice.

peace,

cool.
i never meant to judge him as a "smoker" but i do know that he smokes and its obvious that he's dabbled in the white drugs, so i just figured it was from smoking. thanks for the info.

I'm 100% convinced that that opinion is for people who are afraid to speak their mind on a subject, you're most likely a centrist, eh? in the political scheme of things that is...just get honest, Bela is better hands down, listen to each of their solo's in spoon...bela smokes tim.

OK buddy...after seeing some of your posts, I see that you are strong willed and almost rude; he made a simple satatement that both are talented...I AGREE and I am no where near a moderate!!! WOW! Go figure!!! Both have skills and I will not take a single thing away from Bela, but take a listen to some solo Tim stuff (i.e. Turn it Into Love - Stranger in a Strained Land - And Then They Were Free - or any other live stuff)... its one freakin' guitar!!! While Bela is also very skilled. My preference is Tim anyday. So stop dissin' peoples posts and running poles on who has the better tab...when you go out and perfect a tab site like this  , then I will compare you with JKanter; until then...

No bashing coming from here...just talking straight.

P.S your tab was good for Captain; thats all I ever knew it to be but still, nice job

I think I need to make a disclaimer saying that I'm obstinate on purpose to humor myself, but that'd ruin my fun.
