It's basically the country approach he's employing here. Which whatever, but it doesn't strike me as experimental so much as lazy. But I think most "honest and literal" lyrics are lazy. It sucks how it seems like getting old and having kids makes you boring as an artist.

I wouldn't say that's entirely true. Check out the recent reissue of Paul McCartney's Ram. Or even the new Walkmen album.

Of course, I'm generalizing, but it's true in a lot of cases.
