I am very pleased with this album. If some of the songs had better lyrics I would really love it. There are some spots where it falls flat, but holy shit there are some gems (LITHOG, Squirm, MBB). Squirm is one of my favorite things they have ever written, let alone in the last ten years. It has BTCS sessions written all over it. LITHOG sounds like a mash up of something off of UTTAD mixed with LWS. If SMLAM had slightly better lyrics it would be a damn good tune as well. It's really catchy and fun, the horns are really tight. If there was a better transition into that bridge section I'd love it as well.

Squirm
LITHOG
MBB
Why I Am
SMLAM

Those are my top picks after going twice through.

Unless it's the feeling of new DMB music, which it very well could be, I think I might put this ahead of Everyday down the road. Seven is a real sore spot, but other than that and some questionable (read: cheesy) lyrics, this is a solid effort.

Oh, by the way, it also happens to be some of Carter's best work in a LONG time.

Ya, Seven is not that bad, I knew it would be better on the album then it was live. Also, SMLAM would be SOLID if the lyrics were a little better, but when I blare it in the car I really enjoy singing along with it so I'm digging it. Overall though my top pick is Time Bomb but it's REALLY close between it and Squirm. Time Bomb is ahead only a little bit because I like the slightly religious lyrics and am fascinated in Dave's search for God. Also, is Squirm about Roi's funeral?

I'm very surprised that the two reviews so far have been generally positive.

I agree.

Although based on the two reviews we've gotten thus far, I'm letting myself get my hopes up about the album again. I'm still not expecting something amazing, but at least something on par with Everyday will make me pretty happy.

Why did they include Jeff into the album and then not let him play? On the whole album, I heard him for like 10 seconds (I wasn't listening closely, though)
Also, I really think Dave should get some professional help with his voice, I mean, on most of the songs he's great, but you can hear on songs like My Baby Blue (or even at the louder section of Time Bomb) that he can't do it as well as he used to... Maybe the reason why the newer Dave guitar sections are so simple and... ordinary is that he adjusts his music to his voice, not his voice to his music

spaceman is the worst song on there, followed by seven. Alligator pie isn't my favorite either but I like every other song

I agree. Alligator Pie could have been so awesome if Dave just finished writing the lyrics for it and cut out that ridiculously out of place bridge (when you have to have your "bridge" come to a complete stop in order to get back to the verses you should know that it needs to be changed or eliminated completely). The lyrics in the first verse and the way he sings them is perfect, but the song falls apart after that. And I don't like how he keeps repeating the "Daddy when you gonna put me in a song" line over and over again instead of tossing a couple more "Tell me Lord when help is gonna come". It ruins the narrative of the song that he was setting at the beginning about a family stranded on a rooftop after Katrina and it turns into just a way to get his daughters name into a song.

Almost done listening one time through.

Time Bomb, at the start, doesn't sound bad. However, the end of the song sounds horrible. Dave's voice is just weak in that part. I pretty much like whenever Timmy is playing electric. I agree with all comments about Squirm and SMLIAM. MBB is very pretty, and I enjoy You and Me as well. The chorus has a serious When the World Ends feel (rhythm-wise).
