Working on the crew

Has anyone here worked on the crew for the band or any other band? What type of steps would one take to get a position? I'm sure you have to start as someone's bitch and work your way up, but I'm just curious if you would have to go through Warehouse administration or the record label's.

if you're looking for DMB crew. i'd say, it's next to immpossible. i'm pretty sure most of his crew (maybe differnet now, but at leat in the recent past) were people from Charlottesville, maybe even know dave pretty well first.

i'm sure it would be just about one of the hardest jobs to get, but i dont really know. and i can't point you in any direction...so i gues, just ignore me

well, all the top people have either been with him from the start, or were very close friends with dave. others come from that, many have worked for years and years, hard to get a position, if you get one i want to know how so i can do so later in life.

all of the above reasons are solid in why its gonna be next to impossible to get a dmb crew job. the other reason...there will never be vacancies, cuz who wants to leave that? taht would be amazing

There's nothing that can't be done. This idea of yours will be very, very difficult. As stated before the guys that usually work with bands as crew are the guys that did sound or helped with gear in the early days. Old connections, old friends are usually the people on crew. I'm sure some of them are just professionals who got hooked up with a certain job and stuck with the band. I really think you'd have to already be in touch with DMB or at least have experience in the "crew" department.

My advice, find a good band and help them so when they become famous they'll give you a job.

As an aside, a friend of mine toured with P-Funk doing setup and strike work and it was the time of his life.

You could always try getting a job at a venue that the band plays every summer and try and suck ass to one of the roadies and see if they can give you some advice on how to get started. It's a long shot and you would have to be very sneaky. Networking is one of the most valuable traits that you can develop that will help you in many aspects of life. I used a very creative way to land an account with a CEO. You just gotta put your mind to it and take a chance.

I used to work in the pits at convention center in College and met some pretty cool people, but nothing as big as DMB.

That's how it starts though. You meet the right people through networking. There's a difference between wanted to work on a road crew and wanting to get close to DMB by any means, i.e. working crew for them.

I met Prince, Prince's manager, several WWE wrestler's, bandmembers from Anthrax and Pantera and a few other country singers there. You just gotta establish that one link and then work like hell to get what you want.

I am sure if you are sincere enough and are nice enough they mind find it in their heart to try and give you some very good advice. That is one of the great things about most people, is if you ask for help they are usually open to giving help. And if they give you advice, then they become partially committed to helping you succeed.

like CT said, start with a different band. If you're really good, your name will be known around the industry and see what happens. You're gonna have to pay your dues in the business before getting hooked up with a huge band like DMB. If you're just doing it so there's an off chance of meeting them, that isn't a good reason for a job.

This girl i worked with, her dad was a lighting guy for venues for like 35 years. She got hooked up with this pimp job. When musicians reach the town there playing in, she rents them vehicles and drives them around the town and shows them a good time!
She had met soo many fucking musicians, including dmb on several occations. She had met, hung out with and driving dave around about 4-5 times.
I think being hooked up with a gig like that takes luck and inheritance
