TONIGHT'S SHOW SUCKED
I love how it went BOWA, then Pig, then WWYS...then COMPLETELY downhill until the encore. So Right was one song I wanted to hear, but there were 5 other ones!!!
On the upside, my friends and I met Carter before the show and got some stuff signed. I recommended he tell Dave to play The Last Stop or Halloween, and he was real excited to hear it....AND HE LET US DOWN.

but it did start and end great. and nancies into warehouse really was intense.
they ripped the balls off of loving wings. no build up, no carter drum solo...just kinda weak.

HOLLYWOOD BOWL REVIEW:
Firstly, some shit happened and i didn't end up going with the people i intended to go with, and they got to meet carter. yeah...sucked balls.
my friend jeff (lord of the flies) talked to him and asked for halloween, and carter seemed very excited about it. dave aws writing the setlist though, so apparently that didn't happen.
ON TO THE SHOW!
Best of What's Around: awesome opener! i loved it, great solo at the end, carter's a monster.
Pig: first time hearing it, probably the highlight of my night. al ittle out of tune, but whatever, not too unbareable.
What Would You Say: really cool, Rashawn adds a lot to the jam at the end. very fun song.
Dream Girl: here's where the show took a turn for the worse. i was happy to not hear that retarded intro (heeeyyyyy heeeeyyy heeeeeeeyy......) but they snuck it into the end somewhere. they've tweaked the arrangement, and it's a lot shorter and better. but still would hav eliked to hear something else.
Hunger for the Great Light: intense, of course, but still just simply a bad song. the lights were pretty nuts, and dave was REALLY into it, so you couldn't help but dance.
Shotgun: i was really happy to hear this, even though i thought he was gonna do the idea of you. really good song, great musically, still working ot he lyrics i guess. i edxpected to show to go back up after this
Crash: eh....that's about all i have to say there
Everyday: good song live, happy, honey honey always makes me very happy. but i've heard it 4 times now, and i'm a little over it. and boyd's solo SUCKS in that song.
You Might Die Trying: at this point i'm saying "dave, why are you doing this to me? most hte other shows have like max 2 stand up songs, and you've already hit me with 3?" very boring, kinda cool jam later, but still boring.
Nancies ==> Warehouse: awesome. they needed this to pick up the show. as my friend say, "that was like 20 minutes of non stop crazy" and it really was. even though all three of boyd's solos in nancies sounded exactly the same...it was intense. my only complaint with nancies is that they should cut boyd off in the middle of his solo and give it to leroi or something. that solo is WAY too long for boyd. warehouse was awesome though. louie louie/salsa, very intense, a lot of fun
loving wings: yeah yeah yeah....i'm been to six shows now, and i've heard it 3 times. this time was by far and away the worst version of it. just plain bad solos (rashawn was okay...) but they butchered the song. no intense build up...no carter solo.
Where are You Going?: i knew it was coming...and i really wanted to know where the hell the set was going after this the whole song (no pun intended). standard WAYG...blah.
so here comes dave with the electric baritone and they bring out randolphs slide. oh! bayou...alright wahtever. they won't close with it. one more after bayou.
SMOOTH RIDER: what a smack in the face. that song was so incredibly boring. there was maybe 1 minute where people were into it and that was when dave was screaming his lungs out. even randolphs solo wasn't very good. and of course...i knew what was coming next.
Bayou: yep...bayou. i'll give it to them though, the end jam was really hardcore, had me grooving. they're jumping all ove rht eplace, and it didn't even sound like bayou, it was a completely different song.
Set Break: honestly, i was really disappointed. not even a dreaming tree halloween last stop encore could save this show (well maybe it could...but you know what i mean). they just ended the set on like 6 really bad songs in a row. so needless to say, i wasn't happy.
he comes back out and straps the electric on. i was about to walk out thinking it was what you are and Stay.
SO RIGHT!: now THAT was a treat. didn't see that coming at all, and i loved it. thank god for tha tsong, i think rashawn could have done a little mor though. but it was awesome
Ants: great closer, as always, but again. i've heard it a bunch. but still really fun to hear the entire hollywood bowl singing "people in every direction!"
overall...i was really disappointed. i've decided that dave absolutely hates either me or Los angeles. dave wrote the setlist for this show, so i'm assuming dave's the one with the bad taste in music. haha. i'm kind of fed up with dmb. i just feel really let down.

(sorry to be such a whiny little brat...its just that when you watch a show like this where you drop 70 bucks, you don't want to hear a bunch of songs that you don't like, and then a bunch you've heard a hundred times...)

I wanted to add that the biggest slap in the face came before Smooth Rider, when they played Can't Stop (which I never bothered downloading a bootleg of). I thought it was Smooth Rider at first and I was cursing about it until my friend told me it was Can't Stop and she and like the whole section sat down.
Then guess what Dave played next? Smooth Rider.

guys, dave didn't write the setlist. they just get asked 20+ times a night to play X song, and they always say someone other than them is writing the setlist, so you don't hate them when the song doesn't get on there (because, let's face it, it never will unless you have a personal connection).
unless they've changed their system in the past few years, there was an article a few years ago that said they have their entire list of songs, plus their setlists from the past few times at that venue/area in a FileMaker Pro database on Dave's powerbook, and they all sit down and plan out the setlist together.

Well, the first thing we asked Carter was "Is it a good setlist tonight?" without a request. When he said Dave was writing it, THEN we pleaded him to add Halloween in there. Although I could easily see them planning the setlist together that way because that's how a lot of bands do it.
