I don't understand people who say that Blossom is a great place to see a show. It's horrible. Star Lake is a much better place to see a show and that's why the band plays there twice a year

Blossom isn't great. Germain (or when I saw DMB it was called Polaris) is 10x better IMO.hofdaddy wrote:I don't understand people who say that Blossom is a great place to see a show. It's horrible. Star Lake is a much better place to see a show and that's why the band plays there twice a year

Im not saying it was the best venue in the world, but I have absolutly nothing to complain about. Great sound, great view, great staff, beutiful park, everything is easily accessable, getting in and out wasnt too big of a deal (though i got pulled over on the way there which was a lil nerve wrecking, but got lucky). People were tailgating, picknicking, drinking, grilling, hanging out and having a great time, what else is there to do at a show?
No shakedown street, but DMB shows never have great lots anyways. As far as Blossom, it provided everything it needed to for a great show. Ive never been to Germain or Star Lake (and im sure theyre amazing venues), but Blossom impressed me considering what I had heard about it.
And just because bands play 2 nights at a venue doesnt make it great. I mean Hartford and Camden always get 2 nights (as well as Sound Advice in West Palm, which is a HORRIBLE place to see a band) and they arent anything special, it just means that have great locations which can draw huge sell out crowds no problem.
this was the first DMB show that i was able to get tickets on sale the day of the show, I personally think it has more to do with the location than it does the venue...
As long as the sound is good I really couldnt care less at a DMB show. Its not like it was a Dead show or anything where a bad venue can really fuck things up...

here is my full review of the show.
First of all, the area surrounding Blossom is beautiful. I love how the theatre is nestled in the woods, surrounded by nature. As gay as that sounds, it really is beautiful.
That said, I was front and center in the lawn and couldn't the stage that well. I ended up watching the screens for most of the time. The sound quality up front was great though. I'd place Blossom at the bottom of the places I've seen DMB, Polaris being first, Star-Lake second, and Blossom third.
The show started off great, PNP->Rapunzel makes for a great opener, and I enjoyed the often under-rated When the World Ends. Rhyme and Reason is always great to see as well.
Then came Hunger, and it sucked. I understand why they have been playing Hunger this tour, because with they way the stage is set up it works great. They play a few songs with curtains behind them, then play the intro to Hunger. When everyone kicks in, the curtains drop, the screens are shown, and the place goes nuts. I'm not a huge fan of Hunger, but when I saw it earlier this year at Burgettstown I thought they did a great job with it. I wasn't feeling this version as much.
Break Free was next, I didn't like much either. I hadn't downloaded it, so this was my first time hearing it. It follows the Live Stand Up formula, play a ho-hum song, add a jam on the end, flash lights, people cheer. Bayou is the prime example of this formula, which was played next. This makes 5 straight shows that ive seen Bayou, and I'm really fucking tired of it. Next came Smooth Rider, which was cool because Warren guested, but other than that it was standard. Again, average song, jam at end (even though Warren made the jam sweet). During this time I witnessed a drunk frat fuck try and crowdsurf and spill a beer all over an older gentlemen. Bravo asshole.
Grey Street followed. Standard version, I've seen it four shows in a row now so nothing shocking. Next came STDH. Ok to hear just cause its kinda rare, but it didn't excite me, or the crowd. As Boyd and Roi played the end of STDH, Dave went right into Grace is Gone, which was one of the shows high-points. I've seen the hoedown jam before, but this was my favorite, Boyd truly lost his mind. JTR followed, which very few people in lawn got, but I literally looked up to the heavens and thanked God for JTR, it alone made the trip worthwhile. I loved Dave's singing "Without darkness there's no light, without the left there is no right" or something like that. It was awesome.
Next came Crash Into Me, screaming sluts and spilled beer ensued. Jimi Thing really needs to go on a break. Unless there are guests, the jam is boring and the same every show. I was disappointed that Warren didn't come back out for this, but whatever, I lived. Ants closed out the set.
American Baby Intro kicked off the encore, and even though I knew Two Step was going to follow it, the entire encore rocked. Dave screamed his lungs out during ABI, and butch's jam was kept to a reasonable legnth during Two Step.
Overall, not the best show I've seen. Probably falls in the bottom half, but I still had a good time and got a sweet Kool-Aid Man DMB poster!
