i think overall it was a damn good set. sure they did hunger into bayou and e1 was smooth rider, but look at the rest of the set.

There wasn't even ONE surprise and no tour debuts. SPAC had 5 tour debuts altogether, 3 of them were the first night. They better do something crazy tomorrow. (i.e. Sweet Up and Down)

It was a good show sans a few songs and the encore. Lots of goodies in there. But Jimi, Hunger, Smooth Rider, and Stay as an encore was blah.

Here here.

Dave said after Everyday, "It's a special night, we gotta start off slow."

He also said after Hunger, "Just so you know, we looooooove that song too!" That made me flinch.

They got a LOT of shit out of the way...

They crossed off almost all of their closers from this tour that I can remember, except for Two Step and Rapunzel, which worries me, because I can't think of any other possibility for tomorrow except for Rapunzel closer, Two Step encore, and I don't want to know what they're going to close with. That's becoming a problem for me... half the time I know what song is coming next because of what guitar dave has or what bass fonzi pulls out. Anyway.

Tonight was very mellow, dave said so himself. Tomorrow should kick ass though. I wish Last Stop was saved for night 2. I feel like they aren't making a very big deal out of it by playing it midset. It should be opening or closing shows.

They got Bayou, Hunger and Smooth Rider out of the way in one show. Unless they play Steady as We Go (meh), I don't know what else they're planning on playing for stand up material tomorrow. Hopefully not a Dreamgirl debut, or I'll get drunk. I'm also paranoid about the possibility of a Watchtower debut as a closer. But I have a theory that they've retired it because there are too many band members now, and since everyone solos in Watchtower, it would be too long. I hope I'm right.

So, Crash, Jimi, Hunger, Smooth, and Bayou are out of the way for tomorrow. So are satellite (which was too predictable for me after P.Monkey) and digging a ditch (which I can take or leave). Ants, Billies and Stay are out as well, cutting out 3 possible closers.

Butch needs to stop soloing in Bartender. Full band heavy jam -> penny whistle -> end of song.

Pig and Last Stop were great. It would have been nice if they were left to tomorrow to help add to the hopefully stellar set that night 2 will be, though.

Everyday needs to be retired. I can only listen to drunken frat boys yelling Hani Hani at the top of their lungs for so many years.

Idea of You was great. Bummed me out to see so many people going to get more beer though. Can't Stop was cool, thanks to Fonzi, but it needs to have more oomph and less noodling. Didn't like dave's performance on that one either.

I felt that the crowd went wildest for Grey Street, another that I wish would have been saved to contribute to tomorrow's awesomeness.

Dave was given another pair of sunglasses, which he wore during smooth rider. Becoming quite the trend.

As per usual, "tonight was solid, tomorrow will be better." Besides Sweet Caroline, which won't be that big of a deal for me personally, I don't know what they're planning to make tomorrow a blast. I can't think of anything, which worries me. Unless they're thinking "oh man, we'll debut dreamgirl and watchtower, and play sweet caroline. we spoil those fans!"... which makes me sick to my stomach.

Expect the worst, hope for the best.

Oh and by the way, "Yankees Suck!" chants are unnecessary at events that are not baseball games. Freaking animals...

Night folks.
Andrew
