meh. i've seen captain live and it wasn't overly impressed with it. there's much more from the LWS or BS that I'd rather see over captain.

Captain I think sucks on BS and thats the way they play it live now so if its not the LWS version then I could live without it.

Its true. I'm just worried that they are becoming complacent and more of a nostalgic act that is cashing in by just going through the motions in the small/medium venue shows that are between their big venue ones. They haven't pulled out any new material that we know is on a shelf somewhere and their setlists are stale. They consist of about roughly 35-40 different songs when they have a catalogue that is close to 150. Plus the whole teleprompter thing kinda pisses me off. Sort of shows how lazy Dave has become.

dave uses a teleprompter when he doesnt remember the lyrics to a song....he did it at MSG this weekend.....

it doesnt really piss me off that much.....how much more can you ask of the guy....new album...summer tour....winter tour.....plus he does have a family.......what do u want him to study lyrics ever night before he goes to bed........he has written ALOT of songs.....you have to expect him to be alittle hazy on one of them some times.

agreed.

from what i know, he uses the teleprompter for the songs he wrote back in '92,'93,'94. that's over ten years ago now, and granted, he did play most all of them regularly throughout the 90's-early 2000's, they are still old(er) and generally not played(or sung i guess, in this case). to say Dave is getting lazy because he doesnt remember the exact words to a song he wrote a decade and some years ago is tad harsh i think.

plus, he's using the teleprompter for your and my benefit as fans. would you honestly rather have him up there stumbling through the words to Halloween? or, in contrast, have him hit every single word cause he has them rolling on a little screen in front of him. i'd take option 2, settle for the fact that both Dave and his songs are getting old, and enjoy the hell out of it with or without prompter.

I remember hearing an interview with Fonzie which kind of explained the repetition. They are sick of a lot of songs, and have trouble remembering how to play them. A prime example is JTR. I think those reasons are legit for shrinking their setlists. Do I like it? Of course not, what self-respecting DMB fan would? However, I do respect their decesions as musicians to stick with the songs they know they will nail on stage. Don't forget many bands that tour as much as DMB play the same songs every set. However, I do believe that once the band goes into a period of time they don't produce an album we will see some of the older stuff come back with more irregular sets.

As far as the teleprompter goes; I would prefer the lyrics to Halloween from MSG to RR. And I don't see how Dave is lazy. He tours or records basically year round and has a family. He has openly said he's running out of song ideas. I would like to see other artists that have written over 150 songs bring as much to the table as Dave. I mean honestly cut the band some slack, they play great shows. The main drawback I see from them playing similar setlists is going to multiple shows in a tour, which must have really kicked ass back in the day. Okay enough ranting, back to studying for finals.
