It really is crazy how much Tim overpowers the band's sound. I miss the jazzy aspect of DMB, they lost all that when butch left

Do you guys not like Red Rocks and Live in Chicago because of Tim, or do you feel his playing has become more overpowering in recent years?

He used to be way more... I don't know if subtle is the right word. Tasteful? He definitely overpowers and overplays now. Listening to Crash recently I noticed his fills and and the things he added blended much more seamlessly into the overall sound. Now? Not so much.

He's playing for Dave half the time instead of playing somewhere in the background. Most of the songs on Big Whiskey feature Tim's guitar more than Dave's. I don't know if Dave is lazy or what, but their sound definitely suffers

A coworker is still a really huge DMB fan and told me something I hadn't heard before. We were talking about how the Caravan shows from 2010 or so were just really amped up and almost like DMB on crystal meth. He wrote back with the following:

"I honestly think it might have a lot to do with dave’s carpal tunnel issues. Dave takes off more songs these days than in the past. Although this year he’s playing more, but 09 and 10 he definitely sat some songs out and let tim take over fully. You can tell Boyd isn’t a fan sometimes, seems like tim steps all over his toes, and I know in 98 carter had issues with tim taking over songs. Not sure why they don’t speak up now… hah. Even tim has said that this isn’t his thing.

There are very strong rumors/truths out there that the reason D+T did vegas in 06 was because Tim was broke and needed money, so Dave scheduled vegas and played for free, giving all the money to tim. So, maybe he’s doing this for a few years to make some bank… hopefully he gets enough money soon. Hah. But yeah, stylistically, he’s good sometimes, but mostly just fast and loud."
