last night i saw dave at the joe louis and he played the christmas song it was great. he did it with the guitarist from soulive like him and tim used to do

No, he didn't. He played it with Stefan and Carter. Stefan was playing a 6-string bass, maybe that's why you're confused?
The guy from Soulive played on Smooth Rider and Too Much, and then left the stage.
