A chords

Unread post by Alecks » Sat Jan 04, 2003 8:45 pm

jkanter, I find your A chords kinda funny. You always write them as

e---
b-2-
g-2-
d-2-
a---
e---

but 99% of the time, they are played like this

e---
b-2-
g-2-
d-2-
a-0-
e---

I guess it's tough to tell if Dave plays with the low A, but I presume he does (except maybe with Cry Freedom when that fingering moves up the neck) since it isn't any extra effort and the chord sounds more full. Plus, unless you're playing a fragment, the bass note of a chord is almost always the tonic (which is why the D chord is typically confined to the top 4 strings as opposed to including the A string which would fit in the chord). It's not a huge deal, it just seems logical that it would be played with the bass note.

That explains what fingers Dave uses, but it doesn't mention him not putting in the bass note (which I believe he does). It's not like you'd really be able to tell from videos, since he would finger it differently, since it's just an open string.
