Lie In Our Graves Verse

Unread post by billywestom » Wed May 28, 2003 11:32 pm

Does anyone else think that there should be an extra stum at the end of this verse, being the open D and G strings? Something has to go there to fill the timing...
I can't believe that we would lie in our graves wondering if we had spent our living days well, and I can't believe that we would lie in our graves dreaming of things that we might have been...

I play it:

Code: Select all

E:-2--------x-----------------------
B:-3--------x-----------------------
G:-2--------x-----------2--------4--
D:-0--------x--0--2--4-----4-----2--
A:----4--2--x-----------------------
E:----------x-----------------3-----

   x4 x3 x5
Does that help at all?

I can't see that being right. This is how I think it should be played:

Code: Select all

E:----2-2-2-2---------x-x-x-----------------------------
B:----3-3-3-3---------x-x-x-----------------------------
G:----2-2-2-2---------x-x-x-----------2--------4--4--0--
D:----0-0-0-0---------x-x-x--0--2--4-----4-----2--2--0--
A:--------------4--2--x-x-x-----------------------------
E:--------------------x-x-x-----------------3-----------
                4 1 1 4 1 4 2
When you play along with that, it fits perfectly.

Yeah, that sounds good too. No Dave song is an exact science though, either way has probably been played. I do like that way though, Ill probably play it like that off and on now.

Dave plays this:

E:----2-2-2-2---------x-x-x----------------------------------
B:----3-3-3-3---------x-x-x-----------------------0--0--0--0-
G:----2-2-2-2---------x-x-x-----------2-----------0--0--0--0-
D:----0-0-0-0---------x-x-x--0--2--4-----4-----2-------------
A:--------------4--2--x-x-x----------------------------------
E:--------------------x-x-x-----------------3----------------
                4 1 1 4 1 4 2

Code: Select all

Guitar 2 (Tim) plays (only at the end part of the verse):

E:-----------------
B:----3--5--7-7-7--
G:----0--0--7-7-7--
D:----4--5--7-7-7--
A:-----------------

A:----------------
E:----------------

I strongly believe you are very wrong

Why's that? I mean, I don't know, I probably am wrong, I'm playing by ear; tabs are getting less reliable for me. But, those last 4 "00"s at the end, it's hard to explain, but I don't play just those 2 by themselves, I play in that area and kinda mix in like muting and stuff to fill in at the end of the verse. The reason I do that is because to keep the flow of strumming going, and those last four strums fills in time where his playing is a bit ambiguous. And it's ok for me, b/c the guitar 2 part fill in fits over it. Sorry, I should have cleared that up, b/c playing those two opens by themselves probably sounds horrible. I'll try out your way now, I was too tired last night to play.

Also, I meant open D and G instead of G and B strings. Heh, next time I'll have my guitar with me, sorry.

I play it that way sometimes now, but actually I have realized since then that he mutes after hitting that last chord twice, and then starts it over. its easy to hear on Dave and Tim shows.

I do play those open strings......pretty much always, but they are really only played becuase you keep on strumming and have to go to a d-chord afterwards. I guess they could be added to the tab
