Is there anyway to stop them from generating new posts in here tryign to sell shit?

Do one of those things (like Ticketmaster) where you have to type in a randomly generated code to complete the registration process to join here?

Guests can only post in the News & Discussion thread, Ive seen ads in a lot of other forums aside from that one.

lots of bots join and don't post

a lot of them will have the website they're promoting in their profile though

and for some reason, a lot of them don't even have a website in their profile.

an easy way to tell if it's a bot is to look them up in the administration panel and see what language they chose.. bots always choose "Albanian" because it's first on the list.

i guess it doesn't hurt much for them to register and not post, it would just annoy me if it was my site.

i sent brock a PM w/ a mod that is supposed to make it harder for bots to register but never got a response (as usual :( )

I just think it's really weird how there's always someone who responds in their threads, trying to say something funny (but it never is), and so topping the threads.

do you think that someone will actually click on the links? I don't think so. I also think B Rock loves to delete things off the boards. It makes his pants tight

doesn't seem like brock is really interested in stopping the bots.. but if so.. i found something that actually works

if you install this mod
http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/catdb.php?mo ... id=2095075

and then make these changes
http://www.underhill.de/downloads/phpbb ... rtips2.txt

it adds a box to the registration where it asks "Are you Human? (Yes or No)" and you have to actually type "yes" for it to let you register.

i've had it installed for about 6 months and haven't had any bots register (where as before that i was getting like 2 or 3 a day)
