Yup; we already have bandwidth issues just with the # of videos we have.

In addition, I believe the last edition of the taping policy expressed the band's (or their handler's) dislike of huge repositories of live shows which could be anonymously downloaded. I might be imagining things, though.

for the videos why dont you make it so they can only be downloaded and not streamed? if people download it once they can view it as much as they want without taking the bandwidth.

I'm not sure you can do that anymore; Microsoft does its best to blur that line with every release of WMP.

You could compress them like using ZIP / RAR / ACE or what ever suits ya  You would save a little bandwidth not to mention that it couldn't be streamed ;)

True, but then they aren't quite as user-friendly.

If people are too lazy to go through a FAQ regarding how to use a compression tool that is one of the most widely used things on the internet , then the world has gone mad  And besides .... We would always be around to give assistance right ?

Yeah, you can't really prevent people from streaming. The video bandwidth is making us go under (yet ;)) but it's substantial enough that we wouldn't unveil a new, more bandwidth-hungry feature such as a show server.

I dunno, I've only visited their site one time. Do they have videos up that are downloaded daily in addition to the show server? What kind of traffic do they pull? How many visitors per day?

I'm not trying to be rude, but rather pointing out that there are so many differences and intricacies from one site to another it's hard to compare costs.

Regardless, I still think the spirit of the band's new taping policy precludes us from setting up such a server anyway:
http://www.dmband.com/legal_popup.asp
Any method of trading that does not involve personal fan interaction defeats the spirit of this goal of the taping policy and is not authorized. In particular, posting audio or video files on web sites for streaming to or downloading by the public, is not authorized.

TR.com had either a roadie or dedicated fan that set up their home connection with an ftp server - hence the address was strictly IP. It has also been down for over a year.
