Newbie Forum

Unread post by MahlerGrooves » Thu Mar 31, 2005 10:41 pm

I have been thinking that a designated forum for newbie issues would be a great idea. You could have stickied posts outlining good DMB songs to start with, a few good internet guitar sites, and some other good tabbing non DMB sites. This could also be a good spot for newbies to discuss their problems and find solutions from more experienced players.

I second that idea. Put it in place of the DMB guitar classes.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

I think that the function of this idea would be served by something coming in v3.0. I personally don't think that this is a good idea for the forums because in my mind it can (and would) lead to a lot of ambiguity (there would be no defined spot to ask a particular question - what determines whether a guitar question is "newbie" or not?).

That is a valid point, and one that has me thinking of a different way to do this.

First off, the FAQ section should be right under all the other main options (Boards, Gear, etc.). The reason people may not check it for info (like on raised B tuning) is because it is almost hidden o nthe bottom of the screen with a tiny link.

Perhaps there should be additions to the FAQ section based on the following questions:

1 - Which DMB songs are good to begin with? (this could be helped by the addition of a difficulty rating to each song much like the system used on jmtabs.com).

2 - What are some good sites for online guitar lessons?

3 - What are some good sites for non-DMB guitar tabs?

I'm sure there are a few more pressing issues to newbies, but those three seem to be the ones that I find most universally helpful.
