oh for heaven's sake people.
1) it takes 2 seconds for you to press the report button and move on.
2) it takes 2 seconds for me to delete a thread.
3) we have had email and captcha verification for 4 years.
4) the bots that post have accounts that are set up by humans, then left alone, and posted with using software. other than some advanced email heuristics, there is no way to prevent that from happening with our current codebase.
5) i would much rather spend my time writing new code instead of hacking old code, when doing so would result in negligible gain, as per #4.

are you sure the bots aren't the ones registering too? that's how it usually works... their bots search around for forums that they're able to register on.bbatsell wrote:4) the bots that post have accounts that are set up by humans, then left alone, and posted with using software. other than some advanced email heuristics, there is no way to prevent that from happening with our current codebase.
I was more concerned with the bots registering daily that don't post really. It would bother me, but if it doesn't bother you then it doesn't really matter.

I agree that it might be ok to leave things as they are.
Anyway, this bot invasion is growing fast:
Today, at 10:36 your time, a bot came up and bumped EVERY section of the forum, from "Dave's guitar discussion" to "Bug reports".
Even if we don't do anything about it, at least I "released this stress from me"!
