Video's for STJL

Unread post by PilotC150 » Wed Nov 13, 2002 4:36 pm

Would it be possible to get a video you (jkanter) playing this? I'm having problems getting the rhythms.

Or if anybody else has a video's that would be great. Thank you very much.

how would a video really help in getting the rhythm? it sounds like something you should just listen for.

there's a nice solo version of it on Kazaa that's a touch slower than the album version. It's easier to get the rhthem down. Search for Song that Jane Likes (acoustic) or something like that and you should find it.

peace,
Ken
good, and you?

I think it's from the rutabego studio demo or whatever, definitely good to get, it'll help you with all the songs

he's put up tons of other videos, why couldn't he put up more?

By the way, I have 2 different solo versions, and I've tried listening, it isn't working. I'm sure a video help.

you might want to try something a little easier for awhile then, not to be rude, but STJL is one of the simplist songs that dave does by far, it really isn't complex at all, it was one of the first songs I learned when I absolutely sucked, if you can't pick that one out by listening, you might just need to take a step back for a bit, no offense, just an honest thought

that's not what I said at all, did you actually read my post, I said take a step back from what he's doing now, as in try something simpler and build up, for the love, what is wrong with that? and looking at my wording, yeah, I guess I didn't choose the best words (I learned it when I absolutely sucked...), but I wasn't intending it to mean he sucks, I just think that he might want to try something a little easier and build up, I'm honestly very sorry to the original poster if he feels that way and I honestly didn't mean it at all like it may sound.

I definitly second that.... ill try and help the strumming thing.... the way i play it(translation it sound right to me and i can sing along to it and it sound right to people)... for the verse the G-C-Am-F, i strum twice down lightly concentrating on the upper strings and a third strum complete down... maybe a light upstroke on the change... and after F comes the slide from C up to frets... C strum down and slide quick all kind of in one motion... this is the trickiest part(next to the Am to F switch which sucked for a long time)... i don;t have my guitar in front of me... the first part of the song is D let it ring and go C-F-Am(I think there is a G there but imnot sure)... i think i play the same two lightly and one complete... I hope this helped some... If im messing him up please don't hesitate to correct me anyone...
One more thing... i usually play a barre G after the slide since my hand is already there...

actually, STJL caused me some problems when I was learning it and I learned after playing for a couple years. The timing is tricking on the intro chords, like that Am comes at weird time after the G. And the chord changes are fast on the verses. It takes a lot practice to sing this one while playing it. So I don't think this one is the easiest song to learn for a beginner. Timing and rhythm come with practice - a lot of practice.

peace,
Ken

FINAL POST:
A video wouldn't help too much except to get the chord changes right. There are other video's that when I get my camera back, I would put up first so sorry man. I would like to get them all up soon(they will be eventually) but there are other songs that are needed more. Sorry about that....Listen to a solo acoustic mp3 to get the rhythm down....play it slow first to get the chords right and then build up to it. I had a bitch of a time playing to that rhythm when I was first learning also.....just work at it and you'll get it

Anyway....this post is closed...that's enough...no more bashing....peace
