anyone play mandolin?

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

i was thinking about getting one. is it hard? a guy at a music store showed me some stuff once, and it hurt my brain because all the guitar chords are flipped upside down.

it seems easy enough to catch on, especially if you have guitar experience...

it's a violin with doubled strings, and frets. It's not that hard.

I just got one for christmas, its so much fun if your into the kinda stuff the mandolin is used in. (big fan of bluegrass) Im finding it pretty easy to learn because of my guitar knowledge, I just need to learn all the chords and etc.

yeah my dad has one, and I play it a lot. It's just a lot of fun to just play around on, and a knowledge of guitar does help some.

It's fun stuff. I sat down with a mandolin and played through some DMB tunes. Two Step, the Stone...other random crap.

before you get one, you should try one out. I ordered mine, and its a nice mando and all, but my hands and fingers are too big for a mando. Something you should think about before you buy one-
