So I think I'm gonna spend my last little bit of money before I head to college on a banjo. I'm lookin at this little number.

Anyone have any experience with this one? The reason I'm goin with this one over the epiphone mb-100 is that this one has a closed back. What kinda quality should I be able to expect out this instrument? And would it just be worth my money to suck up the open back and get the epiphone.
Thanks

Meh, that's a pretty cheap banjo. Don't expect it to stay in tune much or play very well. It depends really what you'll be doing with it. If you play clawhammer, the higher action shouldn't be as big an issue, but if you're fingerpicking, it might be a pain to play. I recommend a Deering goodtime, although your looking at about $340 for one without a resonator.

Epiphone banjos are decent too. I'd recommend an epiphone banjo over a rogue any day. I assume you mean this one.

The Deering is a quality banjo that is made of real wood and such. It isn't flashy but it's got decent components on it. With the epiphone, you're getting a closer to the quality of the rogue banjo. Hope that helps.

No, I actually meant the MB-100. I seriously dont have much money to spend on this. So $150 is about my limit. I'll be doing fingerpicking, but I'm just starting. Are there any other companies i should look into for the $150-$200 price range to get a decent starter banjo?
