So- I'm sure there are people here who sometimes have questions on how to perform certain techniques that require a proper finesse, or even those just starting out. And there are a number of bassists here (actually the presence has been dissipating but GSR, me and bassman (and if tictacs ever wants to get his ass back in the game) are the more prominent bass members of the boards) who I'm sure would be more than willing to help another four stringer.
Anything can be discussed here-
basic things such as:
"proper" finger techniques
walking a bass line (chord structures, bass notes, harmony)
alternate tunings (a lot of bassists are anal about this, but sometimes, you really just gotta hit that low D) and how to play around them/with them
equalizer setups for different styles of music
active pickup usage
natural and manipulative tones of the bass (effects go in here as well)
music notation
to more advanced things requiring a refined skill such as:
triplet runs and other sick fast pickings (16th notes)
slappin'
poppin'
thumpin'
string bass techinque
fretless bass (the integration from fretted to fretless mainly- this can be rough for some)
the essence of solo bass or a bassline (learning roles alone and with others)
Any questions brought up, I can try to answer. My skill only improves on a daily basis and I'm around enough talent.
We'll try to provide general tips, little riffs to work on that will improve any number of techniques.
Songs and artists you might want to play in order to work up a certain technique
et cetera et cetera
And just remember, don't put down the bass
Turn off the tv and jam.
