Buying a Bass

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

Buying a Bass

Unread post by Coldchillin » Tue Apr 17, 2007 12:59 pm

So I think I finally want to get a bass and learn some tunes. I am not looking to spend a crazy amount of money, but also would like something that doesn't play/sound like crap. Something akin to how Alvarez are with guitars. Suggestions?

Ibanez is pretty good for beginners, and I know mike (tictacs) used basses like SX, you can get those from rondomusic.net

Bwahhaa, if you think you're going to start learning Primus tunes right away, you've got another thing comin'.

My first bass was a GSR200 from Ibanez. Around or just below the $200 mark. It was pretty good. Tic Tacs swears by the SX basses. Let us know what you're looking at.

I have the opportunity to buy a G&L Tribute SB-2 new for $350.
Is that a great deal? Body is made in Korea; pickups and bridge made in the USA.

I'm looking to get started learning bass, and I figured that 350 is a good price in case I don't stick with it.
It's a hell of a lot better than spending $1K on a new Fender US or G&L US.

So, is that a good deal?

I'm lookin' to pick up a new bass. I'm currently playing a hundred dollar piece of shit Yamaha that sounds terrible. I played some Ibanez SRX series basses the other day, with the active pickups, I really liked them. Any opinions? Or different suggestions?

Ibanez makes very good beginner and pretty good mid level basses IMO. right now I'm playing my GSR a lot because my warwick needs some electronic work.
