piano beginner

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

anyone know any good sites for amatuer piano players?

I want to put that keyboard my dad baught when I was 6 to work.

Picking up my old bass, getting better at guitar and learning piano.... I plan to make it a musical summer.

also what is the name of the classical piano song behind the rap song "I Know I can... be what I wanna be", that will be my goal for the week = )

it is Beethoven's piano bagatelle, "Fur Elise" in A minor. which translates to "for elise". it was one of the orignal songs written for a lady. pretty sweet to think of ludwig writing for the honeys.

and i hate what nas did to that song.

<going into rant mode> like rappers have already ripped off all the beats from classic rock and old school hip hop that they have to go start ripping off brahams and bach. this is getting ridiculous. they really have no musical talent....except for talking fast. and i think we can all thank puffy for that...

if there are any rappers that read this post. please learn some music. look at snoop and dre. it's not that hard. it'll take maybe 15 more minutes than just writing the lyrics by themselves. like lyrics are that hard. 1st verse is about cars, 2nd verse about money, 3rd verse about women and hoes, chorus about how you are the greatest and how you got your bling. so it'll take maybe 30 minutes maximum to write a rap song if you don't rip off the beat. surely you can find 30 minutes to do it right. <end rant mode>

First off, while I usually hate rap, there is some VERY good rap out there. You can't just slap a negative label across all of it. (I know that's not what you're doing, Grock.)

Secondly, Saleen, unless you're the second coming of Mozart, it's going to take you a HELL of a lot longer than a week to pick up Fur Elise, at least if you're playing the original and not some watered down kiddy version, which would still take you longer than a week to learn if you aren't familiar with the keyboard.

I'm not a total beginner, I can read music and I know the keyboard, plus my knowledge of guitar translates over... I just need practice, lots and lots of practice to become a little/A LOT more accurate with finger placement and speed.

Bass Clef still annoys me though, I played the trumpet so I have treble clef down.

I got fur elise down note wise, now I need to work on the speed, it isn't that hard of a song at all.

this is one of the best quotes I have ever read. I admit that I have like some rap, and still do. Eminem is the only rapper that I like even a little bit. He is starting to get old, though, because he keeps talking about the same thing over and over, so probably no new albums of his for me, unless something startling happens.

cars, money, hoes....you have it soooo right.

oh yeah, i love rage against the machine...is that rap? i guess sort of, but at least they had something important to say, which is mostly true for eminem also.

Well.. I didn't agree with grock's first post, not all rap is like that. Eminem's cool (but I don't think he says the same stuff over and over... at all - i've always thought his stuff was unique), Dre's coo, and my main man 50.

Eminem's stuff is unique, from other rappers....He seems to keep talking about his mom, his daughter, and censorship, which is fine, but not for anymore than three albums straight. Did you mean 50 Cent? oh man...

50 Cent is pretty awful and doesnt deserve all the acclaim he is getting. I cant believe people are calling him the next Tupac, there will never be another Tupac. He was the best and always will be, with Biggie, Eminem and a few others below him somewhere close.

Err... what 50 have you been listening to? In da club? I've been a fan of 50 since 2000, when he was just doin clubs in nyc and was releasin independent g-unit cd's. His best stuff isn't on either of his official releases, it's on g-u and ny dj mixes. I agree there will never be another Tupac.

Granted Ive only listened to his new cd, and Ive heard all the songs on it not just In Da Club. Some of them are ok but nothing really great, thats not to say I dont like some of it, I just dont like the Tupac comparison. Because I like almost all of his stuff and he truly is a great rapper. He doesnt follow the how-to-rap guidelines of, money, bling, hoes, etc. that someone else mentioned. Not to say those things dont come up in his raps but he tells stories and is more than just the other things listed. I have never heard any of the older 50 you talked about, aside from I smell pussy, which was pretty good. If his older stuff with g-unit and the nyc shit is as good of better than that then I guess I didnt give him enough credit, but hes still no Tupac.

btw, this is a huge thread hijack and about as far away from piano discussion as can possibly be, still a fun topic regardless
