Djembes are fun. Me and a group of friends used to have Jam Club every Friday night and sit around smoking dope and playing hand drums and acoustic instruments. Wonderful way to spend an evening. Anyway, I think I've played maybe 4 or 5 different sizes and varieties of djembes, from hand-carved, to ceramic, to metal, with both natural and synthetic drum heads. I've always prefered the hand-carved, natural goat-skin head djembes myself. They just give a richer tone than the synthetics. I should get a djembe or two...

I'm leaning toward getting a hand carved.

the one on top looks awesome.. anyone know if that's a good price or not? I think i've seen some at music shops for way cheaper than that.

looks like the bestselling ones are anywhere from $60 to $360. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=h ... =desc&d=tp
By the ratings, looks like this one would be good. Don't think it can be tuned though. I'm not sure though.

Mine is very similar to that one. It's tunable, but I haven't found the need to do mine yet, you should get instructions on how to tune it with it, and rope-tuning instructions are all over the internet.jrbleiguy wrote:looks like the bestselling ones are anywhere from $60 to $360. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=h ... =desc&d=tp
