Thinking about taking the plunge...
...into bass guitar. I've been playing acoustic guitar for a few years now, and can play decent (more into fingerstyle now, but started off a few years back with Dave stuff, etc). I know the technique is different from acoustic to bass, but I figure it should be too much of a plunge to learn bass for me now. I'm thinking of getting one in the next few months, and I don't want to buy a shitty one now and have to replace it in a year or two, so I would rather spend a little more now and then have it last longer. I was looking at guitar center today and saw a Warwick Corvette 4 string, but being that I don't know how to play much of anything on the bass (only a few riffs) I didnt play it because I felt like an ass picking up a $900+ bass and not knowing much about playing it. I am obviously going to start trying some out, but is this a good bass that I won't need to replace shortly? I would imagine so, being that its a warwick, but then again...I dont know anything about basses, other than a few brands, etc.
Any thoughts from the bass experts out there? Warwick Corvette 4 string the way to go for me? I dont think that I would spend much more than that (it was between 900-1000).
Thanks ya'll.

ive been playin for 3-4 years...i started with a fender jazz (mexican) and after a year and a half, when i decided i was really into bass, i got a corvette and thats the only bass i use and i think its plenty stable, durable, and of a high enough quality.
tic tacs on the other hand has bass a.d.d. and cant keep the same thing for more than 3 months, and lots of other guys like to get numerous basses, but one is fine for me.
if youre wiling to spend that much on, more or less, an experiment, then id say its a great bass

you really shouldn't buy a high end bass if you're just trying it out. because you could end up hating it. if you know that it's something you're going to devote yourself to for a long long time, then you can buy an instrument that will last your entire playing career. this way you won't waste money buying and trading in mediocre instruments and having to replace them.i am sam2 wrote:ive been playin for 3-4 years...i started with a fender jazz (mexican) and after a year and a half, when i decided i was really into bass, i got a corvette and thats the only bass i use and i think its plenty stable, durable, and of a high enough quality.

haha...thanks for the help guys. I'm still not sure about it, I guess i need to get off my ass and go play around with them. The thing is, is that it will be for a present, so I figure if I can get a better one, I might as well do it while somebody else is paying for it.
So, the electronics on it are good quality? Anything in particular I need to know when picking out a bass?

well if your still talking about the warwick, i would say the electronics are ok. they have dynamic correction pickups which tend to control the sound you get if you vary your dynamic (how hard to play the strings) just a little. i have kept them because i play too hard a lot of times and it makes it sound like im not...but others(bassman i think) have gotten EMGs for a warmer, smoother sound.
as far as picking it out, it is all about feel...if you think it feels good, then its the right one for you. but in your case, you need to go play a bunch of basses so that you can know that something feels good. youll have to get comfortable playing things to really get the feel of it...

i just went and played it, and it felt really nice. I'm really thinking about going for it. They also had a used 5 string thumb bolt on (if i remember correctly). I dont know what year it was, but it was 1200. the corvette is new and they are selling it for 900. Does $900 sound like a good price?
What should I look for amp wise to power this bad boy?
Thanks again
