Peavey Cirruses

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

Peavey Cirruses

Unread post by GSR » Mon Apr 11, 2005 9:57 am

Thoughts? They have a 4, a 5, and a 6 string at the local DJM, and they're the best basses they have there, since usually it's all fenders and ibanez. I love how the 4 string feels, and it sounds great, both funky and smooth. It seems like a good "flea alternative" to me, and a tremendous improvement over my ibanez GSR. The prices below are from musicians friend, and i think the one I played was 1300 new. Any opinions?

Cirrus' are nice. You still have the Q right?

Cirrus' are definatley not typical peavey, theyre actually very wel made.

thats what i was about to question. when i first started lookin at bass/guitar and amps, i was told many times "stay away from anything that says peavey"

yeah i always thought peavey meant crummy too, but the cirruses are really nice. i still have my quantum fretless, i need new strings for that sucker. and i still haven't played a flea yet, if i did, i probably wouldn't be looking at cirruses.

ive played the modulus quantum and the flea and i just felt they werent as "natural" as, for example, a warwick. the modulus are definately nice, and well built, but they felt so "metallic" for me, so i went with that natural warwick feel. a couple of those peaveys look like they have that natural wood feel, if you know what im talking about(the middle pic) and the other two look to have that more modulus feel, though i dont know this cuz i havent played them.

they all felt really natural. the action on the 5 and 6 strings was a little messed up for my liking, but the 4 string was like butter.

i'm not sure which model above the 4 string i played was though.

That claro walnut looks bad-ASS. Sorry, I don't know hardly anything about basses, but I thought that one looked too awesome for me to not comment.

If daddy's junky music still has that cirrus 4 string... and i can convince my dad that i need a replacement for my ibanez........ i think i may grab it.

i should go check it out tomorrow, see what kind of deal i can get on it. i know its been on the floor for a while, so hopefully nobody beat me to it and maybe they'll be wanting to get rid of it.

so its gonna be around 1400 if i get the cirrus. i asked one of the guys at guitar center to look out for some fleas for me, but if there's nothing really at guitar center, i think i'm gonna grab the cirrus. it's been on the floor for a few weeks though, hopefully no one will take it.

it seems to me you could probably get a better bass for 1400. i cant say that i KNOW how good the cirrus is, but i mean...for example, warwick and modulus have great reputations for a reason, and peavey doesnt...so im sure theres somethin that just isnt the same.

that being said, if you like it more than nay other bass for the price, get it. but dont get it simply because there isnt a flea available, because if you really want the flea, thats what you should get

yeah... i gotta see what's available at guitar center, but i rarely pick up a bass and actually think 'wow this thing is badass'. plus, if the flea is more expensive than the cirrus, i have to consider what is necessary for how i play. i don't play live yet, i'm not a professional, so i don't really need a professional bass, y'know?

fuck it dude. you can get a used flea in good condition for less the 1500 if thats what you really want. i gig about once every two months, if that, i'm sure it will increase in the summer. i'm not a professional either...i have it because i love it. get what you want, not what you think you want. do i deserve a flea for how i play? i totally think it's way overkill for what i'm doing, but it makes me happy, so i could care less.

i agree. it's still at the store, i went yesterday and played it for like 20 minutes. i still haven't been able to see what guitar center for me because the guy that i know that works there hasn't been in.

if guitar center doesn't have some amazing deal/bass for me, i'm gonna get the cirrus.. i figure, the first time i played it was like 5 or 6 weeks ago, and i still am drooling over it and i still want it, so i'm not impulse buying.
