Yummy fretless.

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

Yummy fretless.

Unread post by i like tictacs » Sun Jul 18, 2004 8:44 pm

So I defretted my old bass. It is now a lined fretless. I pulled out the frets, filled em with wood filler, sanded down the filler being careful to maintain the radius of the fingerboard and i have now arrived at a fretless bass. I still need to put some type of finish over the neck, So it won't die quick. will post pics when it's done.

I don't slap on the fretless for a few reasons. Number one it's got flat rounds, number two i don't want to fark up the fretboard. it's not a very hard wood, so i'm just leaving it to be played fingerstyle. You can slap a fretless all you want but I've heard it's not the best thing for the wood.

Slapping on a fretless has a very cool sound to it.

On the fretless you converted yourself, just put about 10 layers of lacquer on it. You can always sand the lacquer down and redo it yourself if it gets too much wear in it-- just make sure the string wear never gets down to the actual wood.

Or just slap some epoxy on it and call it good.
