new bass

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

new bass

Unread post by captainp4 » Thu May 20, 2004 6:01 pm

the bass player of my band is looking at getting a new bass soon.. probably right around or less than 500 dollars.. and we were just looking for some suggestions as to what to get, or look at.. i know tell him to go to the store and play them to see what he likes, but, anyone have any good or bad experiences with a certain bass?

thanks in advance

yeah my first bass was/is a fender mexican jazz bass and im looking at warwicks right now for a pretty big upgrade, but while the warwicks are amazing, my jazz is still really comfortable for me, maybe just because im used to it. and i dont think i paid more than 500 for it. so i recommend the fender mexican jazz bass. its versitile, durable, and has great sound and feel for the money.

look at a rockbass - it's warwick's "cheaper" bass division, but from what I've heard, they're phenomenal basses.

Two Words : MTD Kingston.
$479.99 it is a good bass, I played one at my local music store and it has the right sound for the right price.
I am going to get a Lakland 44-02 Deluxe (around $1200) this summer, and I think I may get an Ampeg BA210SP (around $700) also, depends on how good of a job I get this summer.

I fully support the MTD Kingston. I had a fretless 5-string for a while, and it was easily one of the most well-built basses in that price range. Solid low B string, which really is kind of a rarity in this price range. I only sold it because I never really played it. If it were fretted I'd probably still have it around.
