Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

Dont ask me what made me tab this song all of a sudden.... I like the song thought it would be a cool cover to do with a band. So here it is and I will be posting a clip of it soon
Code: Select all
Dreams of Our Fathers
by Dave Matthews Band
Tabbed From:
Everyday
Verse
You could do a lot here, I personally like to slap bass here and pluck the octaves. It sounds pretty cool, but heres how Stefan, the man, plays it...
G:------------------------------------------------
D:------------------------------------------------
A:------------------------------------------------
E:-2--2--2----0---0----3--3--3----5---5----------
"Whos gold is this...Im diggin out"/ End Verse
G:--------------------------------------------------
D:--------------------------------------------------
A:--------------------------------------------------
E:-2--2--2----0---0----77777777---------------------
Chorus
G:--------------------------------------------------------------------------
D:--------------------------------------------------------------------------
A:-------------------5--5---5--5--7h9---------------------------------------
E:-5--5---5--5--5----------------------7--7---7--7--7-14\--2--2---2--2--2---
Little Thing Bridge
The C note is actually play an octave lower, but I dont like to tab things out on a 5 stringer...
G:--------------------------------------------------
D:--------------------------------------------------
A:----------3------5----------5----------5----------
E:---0--------------------7------7--6-------6--------
There ya go, not too hard, not too easy, have fun with the first tab since a long time!

Wow, considering how hard Dave's guitar part is for the song, the bass looks simple. Thank you.
"But I think I can speak for the band and say we're never, ever bored. Frustrated, angry, afraid, bitter, pissed-off, mad at each other, mad at ourselves but never, ever bored." - Matthews

Did the band even write their own stuff for everday? I think it was all synthesized, and they just played from sheet music.
Stay with me, safe and ignorant.

I think the official line was that the parts were pretty well roughed out, but there was a little room left for the band members to "inject their own personality."
You can hear hints of Stefan and Leroi's styles, but Boyd and Carter were pretty much beaten down by the man. BUT, I think the album does feature some of Dave's best guitar work and vocal performances (not necessarily lyrics, but just vocal delivery). The guitar was mixed much better than Lillywhite or even Harris ever mixed it.
I actually agree with the idea that a complex part isn't automatically "better" than a simple part. On one hand I think it was bad to screw with the DMB dynamic, but on a more academic level, I would say simple parts are more effective in communicating the essence of a song, at least in rock/pop music. Which is far different than something like jazz, where its sort of more about the performance of the musician(s) than the song itself.
